?
the Cominunity Partnership and thought that each of the members should have one. He
questioned if the Clerlc could call and request more copies. The Clerk indicated that he
would. 1'v1rs. App noted that they have a wonderful web site. They have put together all of
the studies and surveys that have been done in all the coinmunities that have been
participating in this to help each community come up with their own goals. That is how
Berea has been developing their arts program. She talked about the Berea Summerfest and
how nice it is. She attended last summer and it is a one-day affair. It wasn't your standard
fair because there was no fried food and there were so many diverse artists displaying their
talent. Mr. Raig commented that they should start discussing their own goals and objectives.
Mrs. App indicated that Mrs. Beach asked her to let the board know that she has gathered a
Iot of names from a 1ot of different organizations in town. It is kind of the beginning of a
basic list that they could perhaps solicit memberships from. She is Doing to make that
available to everyone on the committee so that they can also add names to it. She was
wondering if there was any money available through Council or the administration that
would allow the board to even do a mailing to people letting them know what is being
created and what the board needs from them. They do need to tell people what the goals are.
Mr. Raig suagested that he would get in touch with the Mayor to see if that would be feasible
and how to go ahout it. Mrs. App questioned if Mr. Thompson said he was going to work on
the logo. N1r. Thompson i-eplied that he didn't say that. Mrs. App questioned if he was so
incIined to, or is it something they can do w'rth special type and just the name of the
cominittee. 1V1i-. Thompson indicated that he was sure he could come up with something.
Mrs. App suggested that if he would be so inclined to come up with one then she would be
able to make it usable on the computer. 1VFr. Raig indicated that simple would be good in
terms of a logo. Mrs. App questioned expanding the number of coinmittee members. Mr.
Raig indicated that he was in touch with the Iega1 department and they will help write and
expand that piece of legislation. It would then have to be accepted by Council. Mrs. App
questioned if they couldn't do anything until that step is completed. Mr. Raig replied right.
He sugjested that they should look at re-writing- 159.01 and 159.02 and defining what those
things would be, but that could probably be done after the committee is expanded. While the
legislation is beina prepared for expanding the committee the board should look at things lilce
coming up with people they might want to add, who they inight be or types of people they
want. He noted that the Mayor sent a memo to Carolyn Kasler, the Chairpei-son of Inter-
governmental relations, asking for all of us to be i-e-appointed again for another year. The
Mayor had asked Mr. Raig to call all of the board members and ask if everyone was
interested in serving another year. He indicated that the first goal he came up with was
editing and expanding Chapter 159. Mrs. App suggested that one of the goals should be to
develop a plan of action. Funding and promotion would be kind of a second gaal. Another
thing_they should think about is distribution, in otlier words, where would there be a central
Iocation for programs. Education would fit into that too. Not just providing programs for
entertainment, but also provide programs that educate about the arts as well. Another coal
could address coordination and collaboration with other groups in the region. The last one
she had would involve public identity. Creating a recognizable community identity through
the arts and cultures. Mr. Garland sugjested expanding the schools art shows to incIude
adults and so forth. Mrs. App questioned how they want to affect the identity of North
Olmsted through the arts. Might we want to affect people's perception of North Olinsted
through the arts? Mr. Garland indicated that then you would go into a jury or judging type of
2
