.9 . - 't
to make it it's own identity. Ms. Schulz indicated that there are other ways to get people to where
you want them to get to, for instance landscaping. She thinks Mr. Liggett made a good
recommendation and also believes Mr. Zergott could incorporate landscaping that would facilitate
the flow to where the golf is. Signage would facilitate the flow as well. IVli-. Zergott indicated that
another big problem they had at the previous meeting was the connection between the new
structure and the height of the barrel roaf. They talked about changing some of the old roof s
contours to possibly help. Mr. Bauschard suggested that they were trying to stick to simple sloped
roofs that tie in with the A.D.A. addition in terms of sticking to the roofing materials that are also
used on the lower extension beyond the barrel vault. He suggested that the vault becomes a white
backdrop to the building and the more you do to it, the more noticeable he thinks it will become.
He showed the board, with transparencies, some of the different things they could have done to the
barrel vault background. (One showed some brick up in the farade of the ballroom, another
showed windows on either side of the chimney.) Mr. Liggett indicated that in his opinion, they do
not need to touch the existing structure of the ballroom, because he thinks they are pure and simple
shapes that doesn't need to be turned into a fancy church or anything like that. It doesn't really
need to be emphasized because all you would be doing is bringing more attention to it. Something
as simple as incorporating some type of a plan area, or canopies, or window treatments, or some
kind of a gable motif that would end up carrying the product. You just have to compliment it back
and forth. The rest of the building is such a predominant feature that you need to pull the new
structure or some of it's features into the main building. Mr. Bauschard explained that
complimenting it within the new structure, when you have a shape and you start introducing
curves, there are windows in here that they can't get to curve. It is a small shape, so we won't be
able to get the curved effect. You would start seeing the segmentation in the size of the brick.
Mr. Liggett suggested just making the gazebo canopy round to compliment the roundness. It's got
no windows or bricks involved. He is not telling him to do round windows, because he knows that
is a difficult issue. Something as simple as a round roof could help, but if this is not resolved, then
that's the City's issue. This is his recommendation. Mr. Bauschard questioned if the minutes
would reflect that Mr. Liggett thinks that the large barrel vault is not a problem. Mr. Lig?ett
indicated that he thinks it is a very nice shape and that he always has. When you're standing on the
first tee or coming in from hole eighteen and you see this, automatically you know this is the
dominant vault gallery that you're going to. Mr. Bauschard suggested that he tends to agree with
most of that. He questioned if it would be a problem if no roundness was included in the actual
building. It is a very small item compared to the ballroom. Mr. Liggett indicated no, he thinks
they can easily do that in plan. You can make it compliment roof to roof. He reiterated that the
Architectural Review Board is just a board of recommendations and it is not set in stone that they
have to do this. Mr. Zergott questioned if the architect felt that they've left him enough direction
as to what they want to see. Mr. Bauschard replied yes. Mr. Zergott indicated that he didn't want
him coming to this meeting and walking out the door askinD himself where are these guys coming
from. Mr. Bauschard explained that he is on a couple of these Architectural Review Boards and he
knows what the board members are going through on their side and that the board is advisory. He
appreciates all the corrunents and obviously the wheels do start turning and this helps think of
different ways to go about solving problems. Mr. Zergott indicated that he wanted this project to
really get rolling. This is an opportunity to make the clubhouse and staging area a very classy
place. To the point where another golf course guy comes in and says, hey that's sharp the way
they thought of doing this. The way this looks right now, it just doesn't hit that mark. He would
like to see Springvale look like a country club. He thinks they are still looking at this as just being
a public course, when he would like to see it jazzed up a little more. Ms. Schulz suggested that
she had hoped that the architect would have had an alternate design with him tonight so they
would be able to look at the two and say that feature on that concept is better than the other, but
4
