paint the egress door red. Mr. Liggett questioned if the roll-up door in the rear would be white.
Mr. Berneburg replied that is what the plan depicts, so it must be. Mr. Yager commented that the
ballards around the receiving door are red also, when they are usually yellow. He thinks that the
doors should be painted a gray to match the building, and the red vvindow framing looks simple,
but it is fine. Mr. Liggett agreed Mr. Yager as to matching the doors with one of the proposed
gray colors on the building, Mr. Yager commented that the building should be built with real
color block instead of painted block. NIr. Yager questioned if there would be any rooftop units.
Mr. Berneburg replied yes there are some, but the roof is a parapet wall that rises about 3 feet
high. So all of the rooftop units will be well hidden. Mr. Rymarczyk commented that if they are
visible they will need to be screened. Mr. Liggett commented that the plan depicts a dark line in
the middle of the sign ban, but the line doesn't show on any other elevations. It must be a
mistake that it is there. W. Yager questioned if the one column in front of the entrance will also
be red. W. Berneburg replied yes, it would be red. Mr. Zergott quesfioned the anaterials on the
dumpster. Mr. Berneburg replied board on board. Mr. Yager commented that he would like to
do something with the dumpster so that the customers will not see it from the street or parking
lot. He questioned if they could push the dumpster about the length of the dumpster back
towards the rear of the building so it will be better hidden. Mr. Berneburg replied that he could
do that. Mr. Zergott commented that the mound should probably be bigger. Mr. Berneburg
replied that Planning Commission recommended a 3 ft. mound with evergreen trees on top of it.
He didn't think that the mound needed to be bigger because of the significant grade drop behind
the mound. Mr. Zergott commented that he would like to see the mound continue up to the
dumpster area. Talking to some of the neighbor's back there, they are concerned with the height
of the building. He then questioned if AutoZone had to go back ta Planning Commission. Mr.
Rymarczyk replied yes. Mr. Zergott suggested that if this is all they are going to propose for the
pines make sure that this is what Mr. Koeth was looking for, because he had a feeling it isn't.
Take the mound at least to where the dumpster is and stagger the however many trees on 8 ft.
centers. Ms. Nader questioned if the purpose of the mound is only to block headlights from the
residents. Mr. Zergott commented that usually they do this to block off more than just
headlights, the mound that they put behind Kenny King's is 8 ft. high to help block the building
as well as lights. It wouldn't make sense to put a fence up because the residents will just be able
to see right over it, but it does make sense to build a bigger mound with more pines on it. Mr.
Yager commented that the neighbors are lucky that AutoZone put the building so far forward on
their lot. Mr. Zergott commented that there needed to be more trees in the front of the building
and work in some ornamental or shade trees along the southwest side of the front parking lot.
Put two trees out in front on Lorain Rd. and three along the west side of the parking lot. He then
indicated that instead of hemlock they should use Norway spruce or Austrian pine. Hemlock
will roach up there. He noticed they were putting burning bush around the sign and questioned
the height of the sign. Mr. Liggett replied that the sign was nearly 10 ft. high and they burning
bush would cover no more than the dark gray part at the bottom of the sign. Mr. Zergott
commented that the burning bush would loose its leaves in the winter, so it`s not going to look
like much for six months out of the year. He then commented that if this were his he'd put
something evergreen around the sign like taxis. Mr. Zergott questioned if there was somebody in
Mr. Berneburg's group that works specifically with landscaping. Mr. Berneburg replied no; it is
pretty much site specific. Mr. Yager commented that Mr. Berneburg is pretty clear on the
understanding that we're looking for more of a buffer and a wider berm so the trees can stagger.
Mr. Zergott sketched out a few more landscaping ideas for Mr. Berneburg to consider. Mr.
Rymarczyk questioned if Mr. Berneburg could get a revised landscape plan before the next
Planning Commission meeting, so that Mr. Zergott could sign off on it. Mr. Berneburg
commented that he would try his hardest to get that done.
•?
?
2
