Note: Variance request is for an additional monument sign and one ATN1 directional sign which is <br />considered a ground sign. One ground sign (face change only) and one new wall sign already <br />permitted. Which is in violation of Ord. 90-125 sections (1163.26 (a)). The motion was seconded by N. Sergi and <br />unanimously approved. Variance Granted. <br />14. Rainbow Car?et4636 Great Northern Blvd. (VVRD-4) <br />Request for variance (1123.12). The proposal consists of re-facing existing sign. <br />The following variances are requested: <br />1. A 30 square foot variance for exceeding permitted sq. ft. per unit (code permits 24 sq. ft., applicant <br />shows 54 sq. ft.), section (1163.24 (c)). <br />2. An 87 square foot variance for size of sign on building (code permits 471 sq. ft., applicant shows <br />558 sq. ft.), section (1163.24 (b)). <br />Which is in violation of Ord. 90-125 sections (1163.24 (c)), and (1163.24 (b)). <br />Chairman Maloney called all interested parties forward to review the request. Mr. Dan Schramm, and <br />George Scarvelli came forward to be sworn in. Mr. Schramm explained there is an existing sign at the <br />site. Mr. Scarvelli has moved to that location and will be opening a carpet outlet. The sign can is in <br />good working order and they would like to put a new face back in the sign. The sign would be quite a <br />distance from Great Northern Blvd. and it were any smaller it would be difficult to read. - <br />N. Sergi inade a motion to grant Rainbow Carpet of 4636 Great Northern Blvd. the request for variance <br />(1123.12), which consists of re-facing existing sign and that the following variances be granted: <br />1. Sante Fe Tanning; 26834 Lorain Rd. (WRD-1) <br />Request for variance (1123.12). The proposal consists of installing a sign. <br />The following variances are requested: <br />1. A 33.9 square foot variance for wall sign larger than permitted on an individual unit (code permits <br />31.75 sq. ft., applicant shows 65.6 sq. ft.), section (1163.24 (c)). <br />2. A 78 square foot variance for exceeding permitted sq. ft. for signs on lot (code permits 141.6 sq. ft., <br />applicant shows 219.6 sq. ft.), section (1163.24 (a)). <br />3. An 88.6 square foot variance for exceeding permitted sq. ft. of signs on building (code permits 83 <br />sq. ft. applicant shows 171.6 sq. ft.), section (1163.24 (b)). <br />4. A 4 inch variance for a wall sign projecting too far out from structure (code perinits 14 inches, <br />applicant shows 18 inches), section (1136.27 (b)). <br />Which is in violation of Ord. 90-125 sections (1163.24 (c)), (1163.24 (a)), (1163.24 (b)), and <br />(1136.27 (b)). <br />Chairman Maloney called all interested parties forward to review the request. Mr. Brad Petro came <br />forward to be sworn in. He indicated he represents the sign company. He said Sante Fe Tanning would <br />like to put up a brand new sign with individual channel letters and keep in conformity with a]ot of the <br />new signage on the street. The channel letters are aesthetically easier on the eyes and easier to read. <br />The only draw back is there is neon inside them and they cannot be too small. He said 12inches is <br />about as small as they can go., They would like to have attention drawn to the "Tanning" in -the name. <br />The building is set back about 90 ft. from the road and with the traffic flow on Lorain, they need <br />11
