Mrs. Martindale added that the Dover Players will have their mystery dinner April 5-6,
Reservations are a must. She will be sending out the Dover Players letters that tell about the
plays, etc. in March. She would like to know what the members would like her to write for this
letter. The plays this year will be taking place in Olmsted Falls at the community center there.
She does not have the dates but it runs roughly, the last 2 weekends in July (which would be the
19-20, 26-27) and August 2"d and 3`d. The play has not been chosen yet but Olmsted Falls Parks
and Recreation has graciously donated $500 for this. Mrs. App asked about making reservations
for the mystery dinner. Mrs. Martindale indicated she will have tickets and can only take 24
people per night. She added that people who attend will have to play a part. Mr. Raig asked
when the letter will go out and Mrs. Martindale said she will write it at the end of February or
early part of March so that people have a chance to make reservations. Mr. Raig then asked for
comments for the newsletter and asked if someone would like to draft a piece for the newsletter.
Mrs. Martindale suggested including a line about the Cultural Arts Commission. Mrs. Beach said
it would be good to get the name out there. Mrs. Martindale then shared a brochure she received
on community theaters from around the country. Mrs. flpp passed around the brochure she has
from the Berea Art Fest from last summer. Mr. lZaig mentioned that at the last meeting the board
discussed Vision 2000. He asked if there was a final draft. Mrs. Martindale indicated she did not
believe there was. Mrs. App said they received a list of people that are on that committee and are
hoping to get information from the survey that might address arts, or cultural arts. Mrs.
Martindale suggested checking with Mrs. Spalding who was on the committee. Mrs. App said the
survey was extensive but she doesn't recall if it addressed the arts. Mrs. IVlartindale said that she
thought only 128 people responded and she was appalled that only 4 people said they were
interested in theater. Mrs. Martindale said the committee dealt with roads, buildings, changing
the triangle at Butternut and Lorain to the center of town, and many other issues. Mr. Raig
brought up the library tour and said he would like to go ahead with that and go as a group. He
would also like to take a tour of the middle school auditorium. He said Mr. Joe Hyland could
take them through. He learned that Mr. Hyland used to work at the Playhouse years ago. He has
a great deal of background in facilities for theaters, as well as being the buildings and grounds
supervisor for our district. He spoke with Mr. Hyland and explained what the commission is all
about and so he'd like to have the board go look at the auditorium because we're talking about arts
throughout the whole city and we're talking about doing something with the auditorium with
permanent improvement monies. With Mr. Hyland's knowledge of facilities, and the board's
wealth of knowledge, we can maybe do some good things. Mrs. App asked who they could talk
to about looking at Old Town Hall. Mrs. Martindale said it was originally built to be a theater.
Slie said the charter indicates it was to accommodate acting companies coming to town, or
musical groups, which is why it has two entrances on the stage (what used to be a stage), it has
two side entrances and men's and ladies dressing rooms in the basement. They did about seven
plays there but it can't be used now because of remodeling. Mrs. Rote indicated it is used quite a
bit now for meetings and there are offices there. Mr. Raig asked if they should take a look at it
then. 1VIrs. Martindale said for their purposes it is useless. Ntr. Raig asked if the board would be
_ interested in going to the library and auditorium later in the month. Mr. Thompson suggested
going over dates while they are together. Mr. Raig said he would prefer to go over during day
. light hours. Mrs. Martindale indicated Mondays are not good for her but said not to schedule it
around her. Mr. Raig said it is essential for her to be there because she had some vision and
thoughts about it. There was further discussion about dates. It was then decided they would try
for Wednesday, February 20th at 4:00 p.m.
Mr. Raig suggested going to the middle school auditorium first to have Mr. Hyland take them on
the tour. He will check on schedules and make sure they are not clashing with a school function.
2
