Mrs. Lord will talk with the Mayor this <br />week and get the meeting arranged just with the architect. <br />IV. COMMUNICATIONS: <br />• National Preservation Awards Correspondence <br />• Perspectives Correspondence <br />Mrs. Lord said there are several different awards given in which the board would have the ability to <br />nominate someone if they chose. Chairman Lord mentioned a couple of the awards and indicated <br />nominations must be post-marked by May lst. She said she tried to think about the most remarkable <br />thing in the last year and said it would be the D.K. Huntington House. Mrs. VanAuken said perhaps <br />to think down the road about the historic district as a whole having improved, and it should be <br />considered. N1rs. Lord asked that the board read through the material so if anyone has ideas, the <br />board can support a noinination. Mrs. Lord mentioned an article on preservation and sprawl in The <br />Plain Dealer regarding Medina and all the issues there. Mrs. Lord also mentioned the article in <br />Perspectives on Olmsted Falls, which talks about what other groups are doing. Chairman Lord said it <br />would be a good idea to have a conversation with this group and discuss our historic district, our <br />Landmarks Commission. Mrs. Lord pointed out North Olmsted has already done a lot of what they <br />are now trying to do. Mrs. VanAuken said Olmsted Falls is really putting it on the line for people in <br />their town to do something about their own house, and they have a banquet every year. She said it <br />might be a good idea for us and would malce people notice what is going on. Mrs. Lord will ]oan <br />articles to those who did not receive a packet. Mrs. Lord would like to contact "Perspectives." <br />o Landmarks needs to chose a Chairman & Vice Chairman for the 2002 year. <br />Mr. Barker made a motion that they approve the same officers as last year. Mrs. VanAuken seconded <br />the motion. Mrs. Lord asked if there is anyone who would really like to be the Chair and reminded <br />the board she took the job temporarily. Mr. Barker asked if the motion should be tabled until the next <br />meeting. Mrs. O'Rourke moved to table the motion, and Mrs. VanAuken seconded it. The motion <br />was unanimously approved. IVIrs. Lord said to make sure it goes on the agenda for next month. <br />• Landmarks needs to advise the Office of Commissions as to what funds they will require in <br />their 2002 budget <br />Mrs. O'Rourke asked if there were any figures on what was used this year of the budget. Mrs. Lord <br />said the only information she received pertained to youth letters. Mrs. O'Rourke asked what the city <br />has down for what they spent. Mr. Barker said he recalls putting in for $2500 and that was confirmed <br />by Mrs. Lord. Mr. Barker said they should probably submit the same type of budget as last year and <br />he believes he has it on file on his computer. Mrs. Lord said given the conversation with Mr. <br />Copeland, they should put in for a computer replacement. Mr. Lind offered to build it. Mrs. Lord <br />said it should be mentioned to Mr. Copeland and she confirmed that Mr. Lind has the time to do it. <br />Mrs. Lord asked if there were any other purchases because she'd like to vote on it. She believes the <br />memberships have been beneficial and got agreeinent from the board. Mrs. Lord remarked there is a <br />national conference coming up next year in Cleveland. Mrs. VanAuken mentioned updating the slide <br />collection and said she hopes there is an item in the budget and they can find someone to do it. Mr. <br />Barker indicated there is an item for film and processing in the budget. Mr. Lind said he will pull <br />together some discs and will have it ready for a presentation for the next meeting. Mrs. Lord said if <br />the digital pictures are aood enough, they can be made into slides. Mr. Barker asked how much was <br />spent on memberships last year. Mrs. Lord responded approximately $125. Mr. Barker indicted he <br />would put in for $200. Mr. Barker said computer replacement will be listed at $500, and the <br />conference cost is unknown at this time. The slide collection upgrade wi11 be put in at $100. Mr. <br />Lind said to think about converting the slides to digital format so they can be presented, they can be <br />carried, and displayed on a laptop. He said the board could consider using the school's reproduction <br />facilities and using the students to do the work. Mrs. Lord said a slide projector is less difficult to <br />4
