suggested workina on it together with Mr. Lang. She indicated she will contact the city. She asked
for someone to work on the history. . IV1rs. Davis indicated she will work on it and the contact with
Ro:;e Scheef. Mr. Lang suggested Mrs. Davis use the S.I.T.E.S. student working through Mr.
Copeland's office who is doing interviews for the oral history. He said it might be good to get him
involved if he can be taken away from what he is doing now. Mrs. Lord mentioned the project with
Mr. Frick that was discussed at last month's meeting. Mr. Dubelko made suggestions about
contacting the Mayor's office. Mrs. Lord asked for any other new business. Mrs. O'Rourke
meiitioned the book done by Stan Ball's son, Michael, the Eagle Scout report. She indicated there are
errors in it, which he is aware of. He would like the Board to review the book at its leisure and find
the errors, mark them, and he will make corrections. He will also provide the Board with a corrected
copy. Mrs. O'Rourke said it was printed by Giant Eagle. Mrs. O'Rourke will represent Landmark's at
St. Clarence and mention that the Corrunission appreciates his work. Mrs. VanAuken will borrow the
boak first and then pass it on. Mrs. Lord suggested that the book be passed around as quickly as
possible because once something is in print it tends to become "fact." Mrs. O'Rourke indicated a
letter of thanks should be sent from the Landmarks Commission. She indicated she will write one and
take it to the Clerk of Commissions. Mr. Barker mentioned a letter or maybe a resolution or
proclamation for Mr. Speraldi for his time served. Mr. Dubelko suggested contacting the Mayor's
office to request something special. Mr. Lind said he regretfully will have to resign his position. He
has personal issues that need to be resolved. He handed out a letter of resignation and indicated he
will send a letter to the Mayor as well. Mrs. Lord thanked him for his contribution to the
Coinmission and said he is welcome to help in any way he wished to in the future. Mr. Lang
meirtioned he had a lengthy conversation with the Assistant Law Director, Bryan O'Malley, regarding
son?e of the work of Landmarks. He would like to get a better understanding and clarification of the
Coinmission. Mr. O'Malley assured Mr. Lang that the Law Department would like to be a partner of
the Corrunission in working out the charge of the Board. He offered to assist in any way he could.
Mr. O'Malley suggested to Mr. Lang that perhaps Landmarks become a little bit more proactive, as
witl.i Springvale, looking down the road toward things they could be prepared for before they become
an i-Imergency. Mr. Lang mentioned specifically the section of Lorain Road between Forest Ridge
and Park Ridge going west toward Stearns. He said in two years when Stearns Rd. is continued on
up through Westlake, there will be a tremendous desire to acquire properties on Lorain Rd. Mr. Lang
saicl it is currently zoned general retail but there are two OHI buildings in that area. Mrs. Lord said
there are three such buildings between Park Ridge and Stearns; the Lattimer House which is on the
south side of the road, and two on the other side. There was further discussion of the houses in that
area. Mrs. O'Rourke brought up that Mr: Gareau, Sr. is representing the Schmidt family who is
asking to re-zone the last parcel on Lorain Rd., next to the soccer complex. They want it re-zoned to
motor service district, which allows for the property there, and across the street, to be used for
motels, ATM machines, fast food, gas stations. That property has been empty. The soccer complex
wil] expand because the owner has been approached to use it as an exhibition center in the suinmer,
whf;n the IX Center is too big. He has enough reason to believe that if he builds another facility there
and uses it in the winter for indoor soccer, it may be slow in the summer but he can rent it out as an
exhibition center. Mrs. O'Rourke said in order to get people to come to an exhibition center, they
need some convenience there. She indicated that neighbors in that area are in favor of changing the
zoning. It is not zoned now for anything where they can be productive.
Iv COMIv[UNICATIONS:
o Perspectives
Mr. Corell mentioned the information on the restoration of schools.
