said when she last spoke with the realtor at Sequoia, the realtor anticipated they would go to
Lan(imarks for a certificate of appropriateness prior to the sale because the intention was to
demolish the old church. Mr. I3ailey inquired about the roofing of the church. Mrs. Lord
indicated they are re-roofing the new church on the property. She added that the intention was to
buy the whole property and eventually request a demolition permit for the old church.
Cha:irman Lord mentioned she received a phone call and letter requesting her attendance at a
meeting on Tuesday, May 14t', regarding the library contract legislation. She asked Mr. Dailey if
other interested members could attend. Mr. Dailey pointed out that committee meetings are open
to aliyone in the community.
IV. COP?IMUNICATIONS:
? Letter to Michael Ball from Landmarks Commission
Mrs. O'Rourke indicated that Mr. Ball received the letter. Mrs. VanAuken indicated she reviewed
sorrie of the book but she would like to keep it so she can read further. She indicated she will
wrir.e down anything she has questions about and the group can discuss it. Mrs. O'Rourke
indicated Michael Ball's father will provide the discs that contain the book so the Commission can
pro-vide copies for anyone who would like one.
?`3ample Letter to Historical District Resident from Building Commissioner
Chairman Lord asked if the Board needs to add to the letter or handle it periodically. One thing
that happens is that houses get sold and they have no way of knowing that a new resident has any
knowledge of the district. It is up to the seller to pass on the information. Mrs. VanAuken said
the letter is a bit too official in its tone. Mrs. Davis said she thinks they could periodically send a
letter. Mr. Lang said a mailing could be done twice a year. He suggested getting information
frorri MetroScan to find out what has transferred in the area. Mrs. Davis indicated that many of
the residents have lived in their homes for some time and do not recall ever getting a letter from
the c;ity. Mr. Dailey suggested a yearly mailing as a reminder or once every two years. Mrs. Lord
said they will need a process to identify new owners so they can send out a welcoming letter. She
said perhaps every other year they can send something out. She asked if it is something that
sholild come from Landmarks or if it should be signed by David Conway. Mr. Lang mentioned
that Mr. Conway's letter has a different purpose than what would be sent by Landmarks. Mrs.
Lorci indicated she will try to work on a couple of letters. One would be a letter to newcomers to
welc;ome them in a friendly way and yet inform them of the information contained in the Building
Department letter. The other letter would be sent out perhaps every other year that says the same
thinr; but is a reminder.
?]. etters (2) from Ohio Association of Historical Societies & Museums
Mrs Lord informed Mr. Dailey of the Commission's affiliations with regional and state
orga.nizations that keep them informed of what is going on. She added it serves as a way to let
those organizations know that the Landmarks Commission in North Olmsted exists. There was
discilssion about what information to include on the questionnaire distributed by the OAHSM.
The information will be part of a Directory of Historical Organizations in Ohio. Mrs. Lord
mentioned the directory will cost $20 and be available in January 2003. Mrs. VanAuken pointed
out t:here is very little money available for memberships. Mr. Dailey suggested purchasing a copy
to donate to the library. Mrs. Lord said if they needed information they could always call the
Historical Society. The consensus was to not purchase the book at this time. Mrs. Lord indicated
she received the new membership card. It allows them access to the Historical Society and if
anyc?ne has interest in going there, she will have the card available.
2
