said he cannot possibly read all of the material that is sent. He suggested that perhaps the chairman and
vice-chairman would be the appropriate people to receive the information. He said to save time, effort, and
money, it would be better to make just the two copies. Mr. Corell wholeheartedly agreed. Mr. Lang
advised that copies of monthly periodicals are to be given to the chairman and vice chairman and they will
then report to the commission.
VI. COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Mr. Lang said there is only one committee that he is aware of. There will have to be a couple more. The
one existing committee is to handle putting together material for the city tent at homecoming. He said he
borrowed a digital camera and took pictures that he believes are appropriate to his understanding of what
the display is going to be. He will download them and have them printed out. The theme is going to be
very similar to the discussion tonight; lost properties, historic properties in North Olmsted that have been
lost. It will concentrate on the most recent past, namely, going back to about the time of CVS. They have
photographs on file of the building that was replaced by CVS. He took pictures of Rebecca's this morning
and will get the doctor's office tomorrow. The Kennedy house, the Smith house, the site of the greenhouse
on Kennedy Ridge that has been replaced by the Park-N-Ride, the site of the four homes on Butternut
Ridge Road that are going to be the park area for the new library, the site of 7ames Lumber and the site of
the old Payless gas station on Lorain. That will be the framework around which they build the display. He
hopes to find the pictures of the original buildings so they can show "what it was" and "what it is." The
theme for Landmarks really is what Landmarks has not be able to accomplish, just to give the community
an idea of how rapidly things are beginning to disappear. Mr. Barker asked if the files contain a picture of
the medical building that was on Dewey. Mr. Lang replied he does not know. There is a disc in the file
with pictures that can be checked. He said it was suggested that he contact Mr. Lind possibly for some
help with pictures. He spoke with a woman the other day who asked how her application for a plaque has
been coming. This is something that has been sitting in a brief case for about two years. This is the one
that was completed in the old format of one page, which has now changed to a two-page format. There
were items of information that were thought to have been lacking on the second page. The process needs
to be moved along as the husband is 92 and the wife, who did the application, is approaching 90 and it
would be in the board's best interest to provide them with a plaque while they are still here. He is not sure
where the application is and he has to see what needs to be done to get this completed. The board has to
establish a committee to complete the application for Certified Local Government, which was begun very
early this year. There isn't much funding out there unless you happen to be a CLG. That application needs
to be completed and forwarded. He is not overly concerned right now as to whether or not they have the
appropriate members on this committee to satisfy the Ohio Historical Society. They will complete the
application and mail it to them and if it comes back that the current membership is unacceptable then
maybe by the time they get a reply, they will have acceptable members, or at least have access to
acceptable members, but to sit on the application is not serving them well. Mr. Barker asked if there is any
cost in submitting the application. Mr. Lang replied there is no cost involved. He said he talked to a
representative of the Cleveland Restoration Society about funding for Rebecca's Floral shop and was told
there is no funding available to do anything or be of any assistance to them, nor to the board. That
representative was not very optimistic about money being out there. He inquired about the Heritage Home
Loan Program but that is not a qualifying property for that program. The program has been renewed for the
2004 year and he thinks they previously had decided to make a request of council and the administration to
find the funds so that individual homeowners and owners of rental properties can have a funding source to
rehabilitate and renovate their properties within the city. Mr. O'Malley mentioned the Community
Development Block Grants that Don Copeland will address at a meeting on Thursday. He said that the
restoration of Rebecca's might be an appropriate subject for that meeting. When the Dunfee home was
slated for demolition, there was an individual that owned a vacant lot in North Olmsted that expressed an
interest in moving the home. The possibility of a private land owner having some interest in the IZebecca's
property is a possibility. They may be able to get it for a dollar and bare the expense of relocating it. Mr.
Barker said he has a meeting at 7:30 on Thursday regarding CDBG and if the board would like, a call
8
