Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting
January 10, 1996
Page Two

Cull's, inspected our heating and air conditioning equipment last fall and there was no problem.
The Fire Department will test the air quality after the zamboni has been operated to be sure we
are within acceptable standards. Mr. Dolansky stated that obviously the main concern is the
safety of the patrons, and it is his intention to do some testing at this time in order to get a base
line measurement.

Janet Saringer asked if the sign on Lorain should be illuminated, and was told that the power line
to the sign has not been in working order for some time. According to discussion with Mr. Ralph
Bohlman, Service Director, there has been discussion of building a new sign for this area with
some funds left over from the parking lot renovation.

A new policy is being initiated as a result of complaints regarding patrons not paying for pool use.
This policy will require a wrist band to be given to swimmers each time they use the pool.
Several other options have been looked into but this system was decided upon because it is used
in many private facilities with great success. The new policy will be put into effect February 1,
1996.

Mr. Dolansky stated that he has met with the men's softball association and discussed general
topics such as field preparation and field maintenance. This past year they made a big
contribution by building the score booth at North Olmsted Park; the cost of the project was
approximately $10,000.00. They have indicated that improvements they would like to see include
a new back stop on Diamond #4 and lighting on Diamond #2; however, the Department has no
plans in place for such improvements due to lack of funds.

Seminars were attended by Todd Morgan, Ginna Crea and Mike Dolansky at Baldwin Wallace
College. Ms. Crea had an opportunity to be involved with the Special Olympics general session
and training seminar. Mr. Dolansky did a presentation in Aurora on recreation center planning
and development.

Mr. Dolansky reviewed a problem concerning late payments from Anchor Dive. He stated that
these were a result of poor communication, and a new policy is being instituted whereby action
will be taken to collect any bill that is more than 30 days past due. A formal letter will be directed
through his office via certified mail to put the concerned parties on written notice of their
obligation to the City.

Landscaping work done in November included planting over 1,000 flower bulbs and removing
some unsightly shrubs around the entrance of the Recreation Center. More improvements are
planned for the spring around the parking lot walkways and the flagpole. Also, a locker room
quality control inspection checklist was put together by Donna Szalay and Tom Stein and is being
used to maintain a high level of cleanliness in the locker rooms and rest rooms.
