Commission Meeting
September 11, 1996
Page Three

The D.A.R.E. golf outing had less attendance than had been hoped with only nineteen
golfers participating. The lack of participation was primarily due to inadequate timing
prior to the event. Efforts have already been made to analyze this year’s event and make
plans on how to effectively market the golf outing for next year. Despite these problems
we had a number of business donations for tee sponsorships and a great contribution of
free golf carts for the day that generated a net profit of $1,400. The Commission

members asked if it would be better to have the outing during school. Mr. Dolansky
replied that many of the teachers could not attend because they were in school that day so
it is better to hold the event in the summer. A very strong commitment was made to
Patrolman Glen Adamson to stick with this program and really make it work. This will
hopefully be a great community outing that Springvale can take great pride in as a benefit
for D.A.R.E. The D.A.R.E. program needs about $6,000 a year to operate and the
ultimate goal is to raise these funds through this golf outing. The Commission members
stated that youngsters should get accustomed to golf as a sport and Mr. Dolansky replied
that typically in football, basketball, and baseball you hear about drug and money problems
but you do not hear of that in golf. It is a real wholesome sport that is a life long sport
which can be enjoyed throughout your life. The morals and values go right in line with
D.A.R.E.

The Gymnastics Club received some nice recognition, a long article touting their
championship season appeared in the Westlife recently. Commissioner Dolansky noted
that Karrie Skall, Head Coach, does a fantastic job. Karrie is close enough in age to the
team members, and certainly well versed in gymnastics, that she relates really well to the
kids. They have been doing very well since Karrie has been running the program and all
the credit should go to her leadership.

The revenue for the Parks and Recreation Department is keeping pace with past years. In
September, October, November and December we should see a jump in revenue due to
the rate increases going into effect. The total year-to-date is $105,000.00 ahead and we
are anticipating getting a little more tax revenue than last year. The only area of concern
is the negative figures appearing in the Pro Shop. That obviously illustrates an area for
concern but it also may be a factor of the slow time of year for hockey equipment sales.
Of course, there are six other stores competing for this business and it may present too
much competition. Mr. Dolansky stated that it might be good to get mailing lists from the
Hockey Club and Figure Skating Club and do some random surveys about the Pro Shop
services, merchandise, etc. The primary reason we keep the Pro Shop operating is to
service the people who use the ice rink, most of which are the Hockey Club members.

Mr. Dolansky noted that there have been some problems with the ticket booth operations
when overflows occur. The office personnel cannot see from their positions that there are
