Commission Meeting
May 14, 1997
Page Four

could not be meet for 1997. Mr. Gardner asked why Tennis was behind in total revenue this year.
Mr. Dolansky replied that he had received a report on this matter and part of the reason was
attributable to the loss of an active tennis instructor. Dave Binder had a rather large portion of
court rentals for tennis lessons which amounted to around $1,500. We were also down in
women’s league play but hopefully the new female tennis instructor will be better able to promote
the women’s leagues.

Mr. Dolansky stated that the Pay Per Period Wage Report for Parks and Recreation indicates that
we will fall well below our projections for expenditures in wages. However, he noted that in the
fall minimum wage increases will result in a fairly large jump in current trends. The play at the
Golf Course is way down due to the rainy, cold weather. The Ballroom revenue is also down in
special events. He explained that we were at a break even point with the same time last year until
four events canceled. One event did re-schedule for 1998 the other events were simply being
canceled due to unfortunate circumstances. Mrs. Saringer inquired as to whether we assessed a
non-refundable deposit and Mr. Dolansky stated that deposits were kept if they fell under the
guidelines of their banquet agreement.

Report by Safety Director:

None

Sub Committee Report:
None

Old Business:
Mr. Morgan distributed some schedules of the ball diamonds to establish a hierarchy of selection
for scheduling priority. The baseball diamonds are saturated with use and we need to set some
written guidelines to help us administrate the use more effectively. There was some discussion
regarding the need to find more open space for some more fields and the need to review the way
the diamonds are scheduled. Mr. Morgan asked the Commission members to see if they could
come up with some better ideas to more effectively utilize the fields. Mr. Dolansky noted that he
had reviewed the old City dump site at the end of Root Road and felt it could be feasibly
developed into a park site with three baseball fields. Mr. Gardner asked the members to review
the distributed material before the next meeting and try to come up with some better ideas.

New Business:
Mrs. Saringer stated that she would like to make a suggestion regarding Springvale banquets.
Mrs. Saringer was attending a meeting banquet at Springvale and was unable to hear the speaker
because of the background noise coming from the kitchen. She inquired if the location of the
kitchen door could be changed or notices to staff distributed to
