basketball started on Monday nights. Open volleyball league and co-ed volleyball is going. Men’s
pickup hockey had good turnouts. Our new rink supervisor has started and will return tomorrow
from her honeymoon. The varsity hockey team and swim team are once again use our facility,
they started not long ago.

There was a public relations problem. A hockey player decided to get changed and dressed in the
warming area. The figure skating parents had a problem with this and words were exchanged.
Coach Murphy called the offended woman and apologized. This seems to be an isolated incident
and we have had no problems since.

Some special events that are coming up are the Turkey skate, a snowball skate on the December
th
15, and we are working on having the Lumberjacks coming in for a Lumberjack’s tour. That’s
where they come in, have a practice for an hour, and then afterwards you can skate with them and
they give autographs. Also in the winter months we are hoping that we can get the Lumberjack’s
goalie to come in, in full gear and give the kids an opportunity to shoot on a goal tender. We are
trying to get a date at the high school where we can hold a dance in the cafeteria and sporting
events in the gymnasiums. This would be a fundraiser for our cheerleading program, and would
be from approximately 7:00p.m. until 11:00p.m. Dr. Sebring thinks that this is a good idea.
Other communities are doing something very similar to this. We are committed to doing the
winter carnival, also a fundraiser for the cheerleaders. Jason Frolo and Jenny Couts went to the
schools and set up a tabletop display with a video to promote some of our programs. We have a
Frosty skate, a Santa skate and some special evening skates coming up. We are looking to see if
the Cablevision Center could possibly be a fitness center. Also the men who built the Middleburg
Heights facility had many neat, new ideas for what the Rec Center could become. There was
mention of expanding the Rec Center towards the back, and having the Rec Center revolve
around a central core. Then a discussion ensued in which the commission members discussed the
age groups that would benefit from a workout facility, and is there really a need for such a facility.

Cleveland State University will be conducting the survey. The survey will tell us exactly what the
City of North Olmsted wants or doesn’t want. Mr. Morgan then mentioned that the library issue
did pass. Mr. Morgan also wants to update the outdoor pool, with things such as slides and he is
also talking about taking out the wall that separates the outdoor pool from the indoor. Mr.
Morgan is having the Middleburg Heights group is currently drawing up a digital representation
of what the Rec Center would look like with all the new renovations. Concerns were voiced
regarding the time it will take to complete the pool renovation project and workout facility.
Specifically, those who would like to these renovations, have children now who would appreciate
it; however, if it takes [5+] years to complete, the children may not be interested in it. Thus, the
parents who would like to see this happen, may have no need for it once completion is inevitable.
Or, they may have left the area.

Todd Morgan said the had six (6) bidders for lights/scoreboard for baseball diamonds. The
lowest bidder has asked to be pulled from the list, as he discovered a few issues he didn’t take
nd
into consideration. Currently, the 2 lowest bidder is being investigated for references and
credentials. Also, he has had three (3) bids come in for the rink sound/event system ranging from
$99,000 and $112,000. Both will be coming before the board for review shortly.
