approx. 60 days. Coat racks are being installed in hockey locker rooms. The coat racks were
donated by the hockey club. They are special hooks, which are welded on, safe and vandal-proof.
Jim’s Electric has been awarded the contract to do the baseball lights on Diamond #2. They will
be using GE Lighting. NOSA is financing (donating) the scoreboard clock at a cost of $985.00.
The total lighting / scoreboard project cost is approx. $160,000. Mid-March is the goal for
completion. Colorado Timing has been installed in the west end or deep end of the indoor pool.

Special Events:
th
* January 8 – Doubles Tennis Tournament was held – all went well
th
*January 12 – Glow Necklace Night during the Friday skate was a fairly good night for the kids
(Would like to try again once the event lighting is installed.)
*Today, Martin Luther King Day – Dr. Harwood’s Patient Skate (9:30-11:00) brought in approx.
150 people and holiday public skate Dogs & Suds brought in 392 people – Great day for skating!
nd
*January 22 – Surprise Snack skate
ththth
*January 27 – Winter Festival for 5 – 8 grades [Mr. Morgan asks that all refer to the
thth
information packet] Cost is $8.00/person. To benefit 5 & 6 grade cheerleaders. Will be held at
the high school, utilizing the cafeteria, main gym and back gym. Hope to have 300+ children
attend. This will be a “pilot program” for future such Saturday nights, whether weekly, bi-
monthly or monthly. Chaperones and monitors will be stationed throughout all accessible areas if
the school. Thus far, 30 chaperones are signed-up. Question raised by Claire Hayes if only one
restroom to be available and if monitors will be stationed there. Debbie Adams believes they will
have 2 restrooms available and monitors will be placed at each restroom. She presented a plan for
chaperone stations and mentioned that a meeting will be held with all chaperones / monitors a few
days prior to event. Mr. Morgan pointed out Page 4 as Duty Roster for reference also. Plus,
auxiliary police will be on-hand.
th
* February 17 – D.A.R.E. Night Close to 300-400 kids will attend as graduates of the D.A.R.E.
program
thth
* Monty Night is being postponed from March 17 to March 24 due to conflict with St.
Patrick’s Day

A customer service issue was addressed. A senior citizen, who is a member of our water exercise
program, was upset that we charge only $54.00 more for a non-resident annual pass. She had just
received her tax bill and is upset that she has paid (she stated) over $1600 a half in taxes and is
being charged only slightly less than non-residents. As a resident she pays $96.00, and a non-
resident only pays $150.00. Mr. Morgan did some research and spoke with her. (Mr. Morgan
presented a breakdown of Property Taxes obtained from Carrie Copfer in Finance). Of the taxes
on her $170,000 home in Cinnamon Woods, the Recreation Center only actually gets $32.69.
However, Mr. Morgan feels that our fees are reasonable and a good value. He has sent a nice
letter to her in response, along with a copy of the tax breakdown. The rec. center will be
increasing the non-resident pool pass within the next year by 25% as a result, however.
She also objected to the $1.00 annual resident validation. Mr. Morgan hopes that she will become
comfortable with this fee, as it is really a necessity and not unreasonable. Duane Limpert stated
that quite frankly, she should be pleased that we require this annual validation, so to prevent those
non-residents she is concerned about from being able to claim residency after moving away. All
were in agreement.
Page 2
