graduation Tea Party is the “big test” at the end of the program on Tuesday, April 3rd. We plan
on doing this again this fall/winter. Another new program we will be running is the “Doyles’s
Baseball Clinic” out of Winterhaven, Florida. This will be held on June 11 and 12, with pitching
and hitting clinics for boys ages 7 to 14. [Dave Gardner inquired as to the pricing.] Fees are
based on our cost of the clinics and then increased to create a profit for the rec center. (The same
th
was done for Poised and Polished.) We have our Easter Open House coming up on April 8. We
have another new program, a golf program called “SNAG”. It is not to compete with Springvale.
It is a recreational program for kids ages 7 to 13 which introduces the basics of golf with lots of
fun. The golf club heads are plastic and oversized with small tennis-like balls which do not carry a
lot of distance. It allows the kids to hit the ball and see it go and learn how to properly swing a
club. [Rich Scott inquired if the Playground Program would be administered this summer.] Yes.
We will have two head staff (adults) with the rest consisting of college students working toward
education or sports recreation degrees. As in the past, they will have a variety of activities:
including field trips, swimming, and park days. [Rich Scott also inquired if passive (craft)
programs will be offered.] Yes, such as Music Man, Mad Scientist, Crafty Kids, Sticky Fingers
and Lickin’ the Bowl. Jackie Ryan is the supervisor for these programs. Unfortunately, she was
not available to attend. This completes Jason’s report.

REPORT BY BETSY DRENSKI, RINK SUPERVISOR

rd
We just completed a very busy time with Spring hockey. This was their 23 year. They have 43
teams with 7 age divisions. They play 10 games each, beginning St. Patricks’s Day through
Memorial Day on Saturdays and Sundays all day. [Dave Gardner inquired if the numbers were up
or down.] We are one to two teams down this season. One of the ideas for next year is to target
individuals, rather than teams. “Learn to Skate” is up from last year. We had 330 last session.
We have them on studio rink, with one class on main rink (the Basic VII). Our goal for these
classes is to obtain USFSA sanction with this program, getting instructors on target and in synch
with this through training. The new sound system and lighting system is up and running. We
have eight different lights with a mirror ball. When we tested it, the kids loved it! We plan to
display this at the Easter Open House, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. [Dave Gardner inquired
on the outcome of the winter season hockey program.] They went well. PeeWee did very well in
our tournament. They haven’t been in our tournament for a couple years. The varsity team went
much farther than expected and beyond their goals. The teams go from age 7 (Mites) up to age
17 (Midgets). We have home schools, such as Hearts Home School with 80 kids, St. Peter’s, and
a middle school that come in the afternoons for lessons and open skate. We purchased new
skates to replace the battered skate rentals. [Rich Scott inquired if the Figure Skating Club is still
active.] Yes. They are down in numbers slightly. However, with the Learn to Skate going
strong and the addition of the Basic VII class, the numbers should be strengthened. This
completes Betsy’s report.

OLD BUSINESS
No.

NEW BUSINESS
Page 3
