st
?

School Building Permits are due the 1 week of June. Due to the levy failing, these may be in
jeopardy if cutbacks are made. Reciprocal agreement between the schools and the Rec Center
for use of facilities may be in danger, directly affecting some of our programs and thus,
revenue. We hold programs in schools November through March, Monday-Thursday, some
programs Monday-Friday. Greg Birney to advise status as soon as possible.
?

All Scouts Weekend: June 8-10 60 tents will be pitched at the park; NORC provides water,
porta-potties, toilet paper and garbage bags
?

Ball diamond lights were again re-adjusted for spillage of light into the neighboring homes
?

New digital clocks on tennis courts
?

Photos of Lorain Road sign reviewed which show specs. [Mr. Gardner inquired about the
cost.] It varies on the style, anywhere from $50k – $60k. Tom Jenkins will approach the
Board of Zoning Code Appeals. Sergeant D. Walling provided a written statement that he
does not feel the sign would pose a visibility concern/problem.
?

Sauna pricing: (provided by Whitmer Pool)
10x12 $12,185 12x12 $13,100 8x8 $9,635 9x12 $11,745
The saunas would be placed on either side of grandstands in pool area.
?

Spa pricing: (provided by Whitmer Pool)
8x12 $47,000 10x20 $59,650
?

Reviewed proposal provided by Serv-Ice Refrigeration for new U-bends in the ice rink and an
ice rink efficiency booster to save 20-25% on electrical costs. Also provided were proposals
for new refrigeration system, ice arena floors and dasher boards. U-
bends: $25,000 Efficiency booster: $20,000
[Mr. Scott asked if Mentor uses rink off-season.] Mentor has 2 ice rinks in their facility due
to the heavy demand for ice time all year round. [Mr. Hoyer expressed concern over Hockey
Club late payments. Does not understand the benefit in improving the facility’s ice rink when
you have clubs, such as Hockey Club, continually late with payments. How does this improve
revenue?] We will be increasing ice rental fees next season. Currently charge $131.00/hour;
will raise it to $147.00/hour. Also, we have worked with the new treasurer of the Hockey
Club to collect payment. We have been watching the invoices more closely and making the
necessary calls to collect past due monies. [Mr. Gardner asked if the rink improvement
project is part of the capital improvement plan.] It is part of our 5-year plan. Currently, it is
in the discussion and investigation phase. [Mr. Miller asked if the $780,000 item includes
Plexiglas and side boards.] It does include dasher boards; not sure on the Plexiglas.
However, we do have newer Plexiglas (Lexand) and it is not necessary. [Mr. Miller stated
that he wonders if there will be any additional costs incurred due to this already costly
improvement.] It is being considered that we will need new grandstands and storage area
beneath he grandstands. Storage is currently a problem and the grandstands are in bad shape.
Mr. Jenkins stated that electrical and dumpster costs are foreseeable additional costs. [Mr.
Jenkins inquired who else could do these projects, other than Serv-Ice.] Mr. Morgan believes
Burley’s and Simco can also provide proposals. [Mr. Gardner asked if this is something that
needs a decision immediately.] Mr. Morgan stated that this was informational only at this
point in response to questions raised. The cement-based rink is in the 5-year plan. We will

need to refine proposals and projections.
?

Referred to University of Akron letter written by a gentleman moving back from Florida who
is concerned that North Olmsted has no workout facility. Currently have Larson Architects
Page 2
