Todd stated that the money is earmarked and
budgeted in Capital Improvement for September replacement.

Chris Scarl, President of Hot Stove Addresses Commission:
[Mike stated that Mr. Scarl attended the last City Council meeting to present Council with past
improvements and contributions Hot Stove has made to the park ball fields. Mr. Scarl was
requested City Council’s approval to waive the permit and diamond prep fees for Hot Stove,
totaling approximately $3000 per year, for this year and the next four years. Council did not have
any objection to this request.]

Chris stated since 1997 Hot Stove has spent $74,000 in improvements, including this year’s
improvements, which will be $16,500. In 1997 and 1998, Hot Stove spent $47,500 to build field
#5, upgrade #3 with roofs on the dugouts, and erect fencing and place shrubs at Birch for the
neighbors of the fields. Every year since then, an average of $4000 is spent on dirt for the
diamonds. This year’s expenses of $16,500 were set aside for the purchase of green space from
the City for a new field. Unfortunately, this did not and cannot happen. Therefore, the money will
be spent on new fencing and repairing of fencing for all the fields in the parks, and lying concrete
by all benches as was done for #3. Hot Stove has not had an increase in fees since 1997. The
organization is still at $75/child. After this year, due to depleting funds and rising costs of
uniforms, the organization will need to look at increasing fees.

Todd stated that Hot Stove and the Rec Department have always had a close working
relationship, and typically have always waived the fees for Hot Stove.

A motion was made by Randi, with a second by Bill to approve the waiver of all fees for Hot
Stove, totaling approximately $3000. Motion was amended to include 5-year waiver. Randi
made a motion to approve, with a second by Bill. Roll-call taken; motion passed.

th
It was noted by Chris that Hot Stove Opening Day will be held May 18. As in the past, it will
include a parade and exhibition, with a party following. The exception is that this year the party
will be held at Springvale from 7:00pm to midnight. Mario of Mobul Muzic will host as deejay

for the festivities. Tickets are $15.00/person.

REPORT BY COMMISSIONER
th

?Brochure due Wednesday, April 24 to mail to residents
th

?May 4 Registration coming up – big registration for summer programs; biggest registration
for Learn to Swim; opens at 9am, closes at 7pm
th

?May 19 – Fishing Derby at Bunn Lake; sponsored by NORC and the N.O.
