Recreation Commission Meeting
March 1, 2004

NOHC

Mr. Kelley then asked if Mr. Garrity was here as a visitor only or wanted to speak. Mr. Garrity
replied that NOHC started in 1973 and is trying to play a more active part at the Recreation
Department. NOHC has a new, active board, working with Ms. Drenski, becoming more
involved. Mr. Garrity wanted the Commission to know that the North Olmsted Hockey Club is
here and has about 300 members, with about 35% being North Olmsted residents. There will be a
push to try to get more of the North Olmsted schools involved, working with Jeff Marshall in the
Learn to Skate Program. They will go into the schools to introduce ice skating.

Minutes Approved

Mr. Kelley asked the Commission for approval of the February minutes. Mr. Jesse moved to
accept the minutes as written; Mr. Miller seconded. Roll was called; all were in favor; the Motion
to accept the February 2004 minutes as written passed unanimously.

Report of the Recreation Commissioner

Balance Sheet

Ms. Betsy Drenski, Assistant Commissioner, presented the Report of the Recreation
Commissioner in his absence. Ms. Drenski presented the January 2004 Balance Sheet, attached
hereto as Exhibit A. Ms. Drenski pointed out under Arcade Games and Vending the amount of
$456.00 (one week) - showing a significant increase. The other item was that the Coke Contract
was not shown a prior figure because they were just switching over into the contract at the time;
that is why there is not a prior figure on that. The Recreation Department budget was submitted
th
on Saturday, February 28. Pending approval, the budget that was submitted included a balance
of +$97.00: Income: $2,372,069. Expenses: $2,370,972. Balance: $97.00. Mr. Baxter asked
about the difference in the Ice Rink. Is that because there was something different or better? Ms.
Drenski said that was the check timing. Mr. Baxter suggested that, when that is presented,
perhaps something that obvious could be noted as a footnote. The really big question is the tax
revenue. Why has it doubled from last year? Ms. Drenski could not answer his question. Mr.
Jesse again suggested it could be a question of timing. Mr. Baxter said it just distorts the ability
to analyze the numbers when there is the timing matters that are not recognized. It was suggested
that there be a separate line item for ice club fees so that a comparison can be made more easily,
that is, the actual turn style revenue vs. club fees. Mr. Kelley asked about cost for replacing the
motor for the pump in the pool. Mr. Jesse believes that came out of last year's budget.
Page 4
