Recreation Commission Meeting
March 1, 2004

Recreation Brochure

As regards the 2004 Recreation Brochure: To reiterate the facts: The Recreation Commission
did approve Mr. DiSalvo's recommendation to provide an annual program brochure as opposed to
a bi-annual program brochure. The intent was to save postage and printing expenses while
providing program information to residents. Fit was also agreed that previous brochures were
difficult to read and that there was an information overload that caused confusion not only to
patrons but employees as well.

This year's brochure contains general program information. Fees, starting/ending dates and other
registration details concerning activities, programs and special events are available at the
Recreation Complex. The registration forms list all the specific information pertaining to each
program. The City's brochure was modeled after surrounding City recreation brochures as well.

Mr. DiSalvo has been receiving many complaints about the brochure changes but they were
necessary to improve the management of these programs.

Mr. Kelley purposely brought the brochure with him and found it to be fine. The only thing
different is that it gives a nice itinerary and a phone number to call to get the fees. Also, people
can come to the Rec Center to register. You must come to the Rec Center to sign up for swim
team, and details will be given then.

North Olmsted Sports Organizations

North Olmsted Sports Organizations will be ready for formal presentation at the next recreation
Commission meeting on April 5, 2004.

This concluded the Report of the Recreation Commissioner.

Report of the Safety Director

Security - Phase Two

Mr. Jesse said that last month he spoke briefly on Security - Phase Two; still moving ahead.
When Mr. DiSalvo returns from vacation, the Rec Center will be in a good position to have a
proposal go to Council for a resolution to approve seeking quotes. Along with that is a concern
relating to changing the standards that people can attend the Rec Center, because without that, it
will be difficult to set up a card swipe system to allow access because the cards have to know
what the status of the person is, i.e., whether they are residents or non residents; whether they are
in a specific program or not. Along with the technology side must come the actual policy side as
to who should be here and who should not.
Page 5
