Minutes of a Meeting of
The North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
November 8, 2004

November 12, 2004. Mr. Baxter said that it is really more than a backstop but is enclosing the
entire area. That reminded him that there was some fencing around the basketball courts that
looked very good but the courts are right next to the road, which should also be fenced. Mr.
DiSalvo said that is part of the planning for next year’s budget. The fencing was in worse shape
than was thought and was removed. There will be bushes on the very ends, fencing, and then a
bush in the middle to improve the landscaping. Something similar will also be done with the
volleyball courts. Four foot fences will be put in place for volleyball; six foot fences for
basketball.

Walk Path at Clague Park

The walk path at Clague Park will begin within the next ten days, weather permitting. Ms. Jones
asked about the Boy Scouts coming to do the tree signage. Mr. DiSalvo said that Connie
Sheehan, with the Cub Scouts, are ready to start. Ms. Sheehan and Dave Wendell (the Forester)
were to meet to discuss this matter. Mr. Baxter asked if it would be done this year. Mr. DiSalvo
asked Mr. Jesse if this could be accomplished; he affirmed.

Mr. DiSalvo posed question for the Commission: would every tree be marked? Mr. Baxter said
that no, it’s a question of putting up signage as impervious as could be made and, if something
happens to it, fixing it. There might be an initial tree with a bigger description and, as one walked
along, another spot identifying each particular tree or making a comment about something there,
to be marked sporadically. For example, one would be an elm, one would be an oak, etc. There
is a dogwood tree with a few benches with a memorial for someone donated to the City.

New Person at Front Desk

Ms. Jones asked if someone was hired for the front desk. “Yes,” Ms. Drenski said, that the new
receptionist graduated from North Olmsted High School. Ms. Drenski senses the receptionist
won’t be at the Rec Center forever, but so far she’s doing well.

Paramedic Required at Football Field

Ms. Jones asked if there is a requirement that there be a paramedic at the fields because one child
was hurt and the Rescue Squad was called. Mr. Jesse replied that there are two squads on duty
most of the time, one at each station. If one squad is placed at an event, that leaves only one left.
The City would have to request a response from a neighboring city or have a third squad
scheduled for that event, but overtime must be paid. Ms. Jones said it took a long time to make
the decision to call the Rescue Squad and asked if there could be a paramedic at the field. Mr.
Jesse said that would be something to consider because the City is looking at volunteers to be able
to serve. Soccer has a paramedic at the fields for the tournaments.
Page 6
