Minutes of a Meeting of
The North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
November 8, 2004

Locker Room Problems

Mr. Baxter asked if there have been further incidents breaking into the lockers; this was a subject
several months ago. The Commissioners reported that there have been no incidents reported
since that time.

Planter Retaining Walls

Ms. Jones asked if the planter retaining walls were finished; Mr. DiSalvo responded, “yes.”
The Commissioner said that the last accomplishment will be installing a surface that would
prohibit skateboard riding on the new retaining wall. Ms. Jones said this is a good idea because a
beautiful, marble Memorial to the Vietnam Veterans was defaced by skateboarders using wax on
its surface.

Family Changing Areas

Ms. Jones asked how the patrons are using the family bathrooms. The Commissioners said that
they are being utilized.

Vending Machines

Ms. Jones asked how the vendor is doing money-wise. The Commissioners said that the Rec
Department is at least $8,000 ahead of last year, $9,000 being projected for this year, so the
Complex should exceed that number by the end of 2004. Ms. Jones commended the Rec
Department on a job well done. Ms. Drenski said that the same person comes in every week to
handle the money. Mr. DiSalvo said that’s what happens when there are games that the patrons
want to play. The vendor is always open to suggestions from the kids on Friday night; e.g., the
sugar coated sour strip are a big hit with them. Now the vendor is stocking up the machines with
that product and they’re selling out quickly. Ms. Drenski said the vendor comes on a regular
basis to make sure everything’s stocked.

Friday Night Skates

Ms. Jones asked about the Friday Night Skates. The Commissioners reported that it’s picking up.
If there are not at least 250 kids, it seems like it’s a slow night; it gains momentum as the year
progresses. By January 1, 2005, the skates should be in full swing for the season. There are
younger children attending the skates, which bodes well for the future. Mr. DiSalvo commented
that the music should be changed to attract the younger audience.
Page 8
