Minutes of a Meeting of
The North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
November 8, 2004

Parapet

Mr. Jesse said that there has been a short delay in the parapet removal and re-installation. Mr.
DiSalvo said the delay was because of the inspections. Mr. Jesse said that he wanted to make
sure there would be no asbestos in the bricks or in the concrete.

Skate Doors

Ms. Jones asked if the skate doors are in yet. Mr. DiSalvo said that, with the park projects, that
had to be put on hold. Note that the maintenance crew has vacation time and they’re all taking it
now. Ms. Drenski said that the Rec needs to have more than one member of the crew to work
that job.

Veterans
.

Mr. Jesse asked if Ms. Jones saw the new active duty troop display board the VFW installed. She
said no, but that she would like to do that. The display board is in the outside hallway for
viewing.

Mr. Baxter said that, in the front part of the park, there are memorials that were donated (by
Chambers Funeral Home, per Mr. Jesse). There is an old memorial in the center, then there’s one
that’s the Korean War; next to it is the Vietnam sign, which is probably about as big as the
conference table. Whoever did it was either planning on 100 dying in the Vietnam War or was a
very poor planner because he put six or eight names in the left hand corner, and the rest of it is
blank. It’s been that way for years. The Korean sign, which is about the same, has a large
inscription on it that says….”Dedicated to the Men Who Served”…or some appropriate words.
Mr. Baxter continued by saying that he doesn’t know what it costs to put an inscription on stone
that’s already there, but it would look much more complete and appropriate to do so. There are
words on the WWII sign and some on the Korean sign. The Chairman asked to put something
almost similar on the Vietnam sign to make it look more complete. Mr. Jesse asked Mr. DiSalvo
to take a look at the memorials and then the Rec can get in touch with the appropriate party at
Chambers to straighten this out in the spring. Ms. Jones said she agreed; Mr. Jesse said Mr.
Baxter made a good point.

th
The Veterans Day Service will be at City Hall at 11:00 on the 11 of November.

This concluded the report of the Safety Director.
Page 9
