Minutes of a Meeting of
The North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
August 1, 2005

August to develop some interest. A good program is Movies in the Park. There have been some
issues with other “open park” activities during the showing of the movies. Next year there will be
a no-tolerance policy for anyone not complying with park policies and rules.

Alliance with Greater Cleveland Sports Commission

The Parks and Recreation Department now has an alliance with the Greater Cleveland Sports
Commission (copy of letter dated March 29, 2005 attached). The letter covers the 2006
Continental Cup International Soccer Tournament at Barton Fields in North Olmsted, and the
letter requested usage of the fields from July 8-15, 2006. In hosting the Continental Cup, North
Olmsted will have the opportunity to showcase itself on a national and international stage, rally its
citizens around a wonderful family atmosphere and welcome thousands of athletes, families and
spectators to the North Olmsted community. The Mayor, Safety Director, and Rec Commissioner
followed up with a meeting. This event will happen immediately after the NOSO Cup. The
Greater Cleveland Sports Commission is looking forward to helping NOSO and, perhaps,
carrying over some of the NOSO teams to play in the Continental Cup. It’s a win-win for
everyone, both Mr. Limpert and Mr. DiSalvo agreed. Mr. Limpert also said that it should
enhance the NOSO Cup because there is a great deal of pride in bringing in international teams. If
we reverse the ocean for you, would you be more inclined to play in two tournaments in England
or just one, so by having them close together they will be able to draw more talent than they
normally would have done during the week between tournaments.

Internet Services at the Rec Complex

Mr. Miller asked Mr. DiSalvo to do some research on the public use of internet services at the
Rec Complex. The Rec Commissioner asked Sasa Stokic, IT Support Network Administrator for
the City of North Olmsted about this situation. One of the red flags is that a kiosk must be
bought to provide internet service here. You don’t lease them or rent them; you actually have to
buy it. With that, there are issues with having a freestanding computer available for people for
use in the warming area or concession area. Mr. Stokic said we would have to find out who is
responsible for servicing the kiosk if there’s not internet access or how refunds work. We also
have to figure out exactly how they gain access to the internet. The Rec must make sure that
there is a full line available for just that kiosk. Most of the phone lines in the City are digital, and
if this does go over a phone line that would mean there would have to be an analog line run to
that kiosk. The Rec Department would also have to figure out how to keep people from looking
at inappropriate Web sites while at the Rec Center. If we decide not to buy or rent the kiosk and
instead put in a wireless access point, we would have to figure out how to run access to users.
There would have to be a full time position handling questions from users on how to connect and
granting access to customers who paid. We would also have to purchase a new connection to the
internet so that users do not share the same bandwidth as city employees. We would also have to
look at what would happen if someone used the internet connection to harass or do computer
hacking.
Page 18
