Minutes of a Meeting of
The North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
June 6, 2005

Director and Service Director are well informed of the situation. The tentative date to open the
outdoor pool is June 27, 2005. Mr. Miller asked what the normal date is to open the pool. Mr.
th
DiSalvo said it is June 8.

Ms. Jones asked what paid for the repairs. Mr. DiSalvo replied that some of the funds from road
repair work covered the cost of the pool repairs. Mr. Baxter asked why the money wasn’t had a
month ago so that the pool could open in time. Mr. DiSalvo replied that the crews must wait until
spring comes to see what final cracking would be for final repair work.

Mr. DiSalvo asked how the delay in opening the pool impacted upon the budget. Mr. DiSalvo
replied that, for as much as was saved in payroll and for as little income generated for open swim,
this did not really impact upon the budget and will reflect to the Rec Center’s benefit.

Ice Show/Friday Night DJ Skate Report

Mr. DiSalvo handed out reports for the Ice show and Friday Night DJ Skate, copy attached. As
far as the ice show, there will still be a couple hundred dollars to be collected. Last year, with the
overhead and maintenance, the Rec Center just barely broke even. Mr. DiSalvo asked to be
interrupted for a moment and said that the Ice Show does not come out of Rec funds; it is
generated through sponsorships, ticket sales and program sales. Ms. Drenski said that the ice
Show was successful this year. Ms. Jones thought it was the best so far (the fourth year).

Mr. Kelley asked how costumes show up on income and other costs. Ms. Drenski said that
money is collected from the performers; they pay their costume fee, and then the Rec pays the
costume company, so it’s a wash.

Ms. Jones said she thought the ice show should be advertised more. Mr. Limpert said that it
should be advertised through cable TV early next May. Mr. DiSalvo said that the Rec is looking
towards other avenues for free marketing and advertising. The Rec had an intern from Baldwin
Wallace do the marketing, which became overwhelming for her. Ms. Jones said that she agrees
with Mr. Limpert on the cable TV advertising and hopes to get more in the way of free
advertising.

Mr. Lasko asked if the net revenue that’s derived becomes part of a fund for next year. Ms.
Drenski said yes, it would be segregated for next year. Mr. Lasko said that the ten percent
overhead cost is the revenue portion to the Rec Center. Mr. DiSalvo said become part of the Rec
Center’s income. (General, overlapping, soft conversation).

Ms. Drenski then moved on to the reports of the Friday Night DJ Skates for the 2003/2004 and
2004/2005 seasons. Mr. Lasko noted immediately that the Rec Center did a lot better. Ms.
Drenski said that the amount for 2005 was $58,229; in 2004 it was $53,286, and in 2003 it was
Page 3
