Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
January 9, 2006
Page Three

Cleveland Hockey Supply

The Commissioner reported that Cleveland Hockey Supply will be ready to open for business the
week of January 16, 2006. Mr. Garrity said, as example, if skates are dropped off Tuesday night, they
can be picked up (sharpened) on Wednesday. Mr. DiSalvo said there is now a very good arrangement
in place with Cleveland Hockey Supply. Mr. Baxter asked how often skates had to be sharpened. Ms.
Drenski said it depends on how many hours the skates are used.

Mr. Barker’s Attendance

Mr. Kelley asked that the record show that Mr. Barker is now in attendance at the meeting at 7:10
p.m. The only thing Mr. Barker missed was the presentation of the new Aquatic Supervisor; however,
Mr. Kelley suggested that he knew Mr. Barker knows her well.

Friday Nite Skates

Mr. Kelley noted that he was in attendance at the last few Friday Nite Skates and said that they were
well run and seemed to be doing well. Ms. Drenski said that 470 kids were at the last Skate. The
Commissioner added that is about 100 over what is usually in attendance. Ms. Drenski said that the
Skates are getting better and better; in fact, she thought that there were a little over 500 in attendance,
because there were 560 people show up on Saturday for the national skating event. About 563 wrist
bands were given out as people came in the door. Every size skates were depleted, except adult size
11, so everyone was skating for about an hour and a half. The Rec Center showcased all different
kinds of skating to get people interested in coming again. Ms. Drenski apologized for getting off track
in the minutes; however, Mr. Kelley said that it is not off track; use of the ice is a viable entity in the

Rec facility.

This concluded the Report of the Recreation Commissioner.
REPORT OF THE SAFETY DIRECTOR

Community Development Block Grant

Mr. Terbrack stated that he received from the Planning Director today on the matching grant -$14,000
CDBG local match, the match for the playground equipment and the ADA along with the renovation
of the restroom facilities, will be going to Council. The original submission was for $127,400. That
was done in early November. Kim Wenger is anticipating approval of this, hopefully without any
problem, some time in April. The Rec Center can then look forward to the playground equipment,
which $14,000 line item will be submitted to Council, a small share of the total cost of the project.
Page 3
