Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
January 9, 2006
Page Five

What Mr. Garrity is talking about is exactly what the consultant wants to do to deal with this
Commission and address those issues with any other groups so that they can look at how they can
make changes and improvements. This is exactly what the consultants want to hear – they want to
hear from organizations like the Hockey Club that they would like to have additional locker rooms at
the facility. How to make improvements is the main goal; how to afford them; how to work in
conjunction with organizations like the Hockey Club. Mr. Kelley said that there is a fine line here, that
is, separating school activities at a community facility. These are legalities that must be taken up with
the Law Department. The answer to the question would be that it would have to go through the City
to the Engineering Department to do anything. This would be handled through Ted DiSalvo first, with
an idea that goes through Service, Safety and Law, and then everyone gets together to discuss the
matter. However, as an individual entity, the Hockey Club just can’t come in and say that they have
$14,000 to put a wall up. In other words, do a presentation for Ted DiSalvo, and Ted would bring it
to the City. Mr. Garrity said that that is what he wanted to know. It’s nothing that has to be done
immediately. The study will get involved in this matter. Mr. Garrity said that what he is trying to say
is that the Hockey Club wants to stay and, hopefully, other entities would want to improve as well.
Mr. Barker said that all these ideas are great, but the Master Plan is what needs to be done; it’s all
procedure and may take a little longer than you want to take, but it’s all for the good. Mr. Garrity
said that the Hockey Club is trying to show that it is committed to staying at the Rec Center. Mr.
Barker said he appreciates that fact.

The Ice Boards

Ms. Drenski asked Mr. Garrity to put the Boards on the top of the Hockey Club’s list for things to be
done. Mr. Garrity said it’s not an easy task to removing the top boards, take out the glass, measure
for it and put it back while working around whoever is on the ice. There is no quick remedy and is not
an easy task.

NEW BUSINESS

Recreation Master Plan Project

Mr. DiSalvo stated that Kim Wenger is working with the Rec Department on the Rec Master Plan
Project. The first step will be to organize an advisory group to work with the consultant through the
process. The Recreation Commission must ultimately approve and recommend the Master Plan to
Council for adoption.

The Commission should designate two Rec Commission members plus the Council representative to
work with the City administration as a subcommittee.
Page 5
