Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
January 9, 2006
Page Six

It must be brought to the attention of the Commission members that serving on the advisory board will
require a commitment above and beyond the call of normal duty while serving on the Commission.
Planning Director Kim Wenger would like to plan a kick-off meeting very soon (by very soon she
means within the next week), but again it will require having a very flexible schedule and being able to
meet either during the day or shortly after work ends to hold early evening meetings as opposed to late
evening meetings.

Mr. DiSalvo said that Ms. Wenger explained what has to be done and how the Rec Commission will
move forward with the Plan project. The first order of business would be to see if anyone on the
Commission is interested in serving on the advisory group. As stated, two are needed; more are
welcome. Mr. Kelley said that what is needed is a Subcommittee to be set up. First, the Commission
has Mr. Barker as the Council Representative. Mr. Kelley asked Mr. Barker if he would be interested
in being on the Committee. Mr. Barker replied in the affirmative and indicated that the meeting would
be about 4:30 or 5:00 p.m. after discussion with Ms. Wenger. Ms. Randi Jones accepted a position on
the subcommittee, free evenings being Tuesdays and Thursdays. Mr. Baxter could not get to the
meeting until 6:00, so he declined. Ms. Anna Kanis agreed to a position on the subcommittee, stating
that Wednesdays or Thursdays would be good for her. Mr. Kelley said that the subcommittee would
then consist of Mr. Barker, Ms. Jones, and Ms. Kanis. The Planning Director will determine the day
of the subcommittee.

Mr. Terbrack said that the administration really wants the Plan to work and appreciates the efforts of
the Recreation Commission. Everyone is getting excited about the Plan and looking for good results.

Mr. Kelley said that, along those lines, a few communities in the surrounding areas have been getting
together and building rec centers. He thinks that North Olmsted has a great facility. Mr. Baxter said
that the other cities are building new but they are also requiring membership fees costing $250 a year,
which is the way to have a quality place if the money is available to do it.

The question was raised if the school levy is going on the ballot in May. Ms. Kanis said that Dr.
Stanic came to the PTA meeting recently and said that there will be some community forums during
the month of January and will take everything back to the school board by the end of January and by
February 15, 2006 there will be a decision as to the levy being on in May. The question is: will there
be any pay to play. Ms. Kanis said everything will wait until February 15, 2006. Mr. Barker said it
would probably be a decision as to whether it would be an operating or building improvement levy.
Mr. Kanis said that is what the school board was waiting to hear from the community members.
Page 6
