Recreation Commission Meeting
June 5, 2006
Page Five

been in April. April is extremely low compared to last year, and Ms. Skuza structured things to what
she thought were Red Cross standards and the ratio of students.

Mr. Barker asked why April and May are both down considerably in games and vending. Ms. Drenski
said she could not comment. Ms. Jones said there aren’t as many people when the kids aren’t playing
hockey. Perhaps the novelty has worn off. Mr. Barker said that the big discussion had through
Council meeting was that the gentleman who represents the vending machines is responsive and
changes machines in and out; is it inattentiveness on his part, or is it just seasonal? Ms. Drenski
replied that it is a little bit of both.

Tree Signage

Mr. Baxter said that he thought for sure that the last conversation with the so-called signage on the
path at the park that there was an Eagle Scout who was going to come to the meeting and take it on
as a job and, in fact, was invited to come to our meeting to talk about it. Ms. Jones said it was
discussed. Ms. Drenski interpreted it that she thought an Eagle Scout was coming to a meeting but
that Ted (DiSalvo) said that no, he was to meet with Ted specifically. There was a Scout here last
Thursday, but Ms. Drenski was not in the meeting and she did not know what was discussed. A Scout
and his father met with Ted.

Mr. Baxter said that he walked the path where the signs will be. There are two waste cans: one at the
north end and one at the south end. Who has the responsibility for this? Ms. Drenski said it was the
Rec Department’s maintenance men. They are supposed to be up there every day. Mr. Baxter said
that people have little reason to go down as far as North Park, but both still should be emptied. Mr.
Barker said it should be checked every day. Mr. Baxter he walked the path two weeks ago and one
was jammed full two weeks ago and it was today. Ms. Drenski said the maintenance men are not
going down that far and that she would talk to Tom (Stein) about it tomorrow to make sure there is a
truck going there.

Mr. Baxter asked if anyone is worried about the fact there is at least one large, dead tree near the
north end that should be removed. Who takes care of that? Ms. Drenski said that would be the
Forester, Dave Wendell’s, Department. Ms. Drenski said she would e-mail him on this matter. Ms.
Jones said Mr. Wendell is quick at getting things done. Mr. Baxter said the tree has lost its leaves; it
couldn’t be missed. Mr. Barker asked if it was in the walking path area. Mr. Baxter said it was off the
path in the north end. There are a couple trees that need attention.

Ice Skating Show

Ms. Jones asked if anyone went to the Ice Skating Show in May. Mr. Barker said that, unfortunately,
he was out of town that weekend so he could not go. Ms. Jones said the Show was fantastic and said
that the Commission members are missing out. Ms. Jones said that, once again, Betsy afterwards she
Page 5
