Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
September 11, 2006
Page Three

to neighborhood or something like that. Mr. DiSalvo said that there will be other steps involved with
finding out what the residents want; this was basically the first step. That’s why this should not
mislead anyone. It’s recognized that the Rec needs to gather more information. This is part of
Management and the Planning Director’s plan.

Ms. Jones asked again what the next step would be. Mr. DiSalvo said that ways will be put into place
to get more public input. Ms. Jones asked if there was an idea as to what the plans would cost. Mr.
DiSalvo said that the plans ranged from approximately $4,000,000 to $30,000,000 . Mr. Lasko said
the costs were noted on the boards in the back of the room indicating rough costs, but there was no
focus on this because everything is still so conceptual.

This concluded discussion on the Recreation Master Plan.

REPORT OF THE RECREATION COMMISSIONER

Introduction of Aquatics Supervisor

Cindi Bartko was formally introduced to the Parks and Recreation Commission as the new Aquatics
Supervisor, who began working on September 5, 2006. Ms. Bartko said that she is trying to get her
hands around everything and see what needs to be worked on and what is going well. She said that
lessons were just started this week. She is satisfied that she can bring registrations and attendance can
be brought back up to where it should be. Ms. Bartko said she is looking forward to continuing a
good job.

Ms. Bartko was welcomed aboard by the members of the Commission, and Ms. Bartko left the
meeting to attend to her duties.

Later in the meeting, Ms. Jones asked how many people signed up for her job. Mr. DiSalvo said that
he is not being negative, but the aquatics position is hard to fill. On an average, about ten people
applied. Any other supervisor could draw 50 to 60 applications. Here, for the aquatics position,
seven of the ten applications received had no aquatics experience whatever – it was fitness but not
aquatics. It’s not to say that they could not do it, but the Commissioner needs someone with some
experience, because it is taking over a lot. He does not know why filling the aquatics position is so
difficult. He is certain that the Rec Department will fare well with Cindi Bartko.
Page 3
