Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
February 4, 2008

YMCA

Last week, the Administration met with Fairview General Hospital, who sounds very positive, wanting
to get involved, either through sponsorship, advertising, or renting space in the facility. So we’ll see
what is happening with this matter soon. If you pull up public records, you will see that there is a lot
done with rec centers (Fairview Park, for example) to promote wellness, OT, PT, and possible office
space.

Wellington Place

One other thing is that Mr. Groden called Mr. Dailey about the ad Wellington Place in the pool area
and the hockey rink. There was an agreement worked out between the Rec Commissioner and
Wellington, and they are paying to advertise here at the Rec Center. They are doing what the firm

that was hired before was supposed to do.

Mr. Groden asked if there were any questions or comments. Mr. Scarl had a question. He wondered
if the pool filter that’s been approved by Council and the Administration is a done deal. Mr. Dailey
said it went through reading last week, and the legislation was given to the Administration to award a
contract to the lowest and best bidder. Mr. Dailey said that the biggest issue is how the Rec
Department is going to be able to fund it and, in conversation with the Mayor and with Finance
Director Copfer, it will be General Fund money, not Rec Fund money.

Ms. Nader asked if it is online and Builder’s Exchange. Mr. Dailey said Builder’s Exchange did call
him last week, and he believes it is online. Ms. Nader wanted to look it up and read the specs. Mr.
Dailey said that Mr. DiSalvo may have a copy.

Ms. Powell asked if Mr. Dailey was finished with his report and, if he was, she wondered if the request
to the Department of Natural Resources was turned in for a grant. Mr. Dailey said the due date was
submitted electronically and via mail last week Friday. It is very competitive. The State is only giving
away $121,000 in Cuyahoga County this year. North Olmsted falls in line with the numbers; it’s just
going to be a little tighter this year. Bay Village is going for a skate park with the same grant money;
Westlake was going for something. We will be applying for this grant every year. We will see what
will happen. It’s very competitive.

Mr. Groden asked if there would be a potential for more advertising in the rink or for the pool. Mr.
DiSalvo said that at one time it was projected for $30-$40,000 a year; the Rec was ecstatic about this.
Now, the first thing we cut is our advertising and marketing budget. Two of them hung up for an
entire year without the Rec Department receiving any money. It will be limited; one or two more.
Wellington had their own signs made, and they gave them to the Rec Department. They are very nice
signs; all we did was hang them for $400. Mr. Dailey said that next year the Rec will be actively
pursuing more advertising. Fairview Hospital was curious about the ice – orthopedics wanted to
advertise. Mr. Garrity said that Fairview Hospital donated the NOHC medical bags two years ago;
Page 5
