Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
May 5, 2008

Outdoor Pool

Mr. Lasko asked if the installation of the filter for the outdoor pool was on schedule. Ms. Drenski
st
said it is done – it’s been installed. The outdoor pool will open on June 1. Cindi (Bartko) is planning
on opening a week before school ends to make sure everything is all right and the first day we are all
up and going.

Mr. Groden said that if no one had any more questions or comments from the Report of the Rec
Commissioner, the Commission will turn the meeting over to Mr. Dailey.

REPORT OF THE COMMUNITY LIFE SERVICES DIRECTOR

Recreation Plan Recommendation

Mr. Dailey said that the City will not be asking for any recommendation from this body until the month
of June. The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 2, 2008. The council meeting that month
th
will be on the third Tuesday, or the 17. There will be time to answer any questions that you may
nd
have and comments that you may have heard from residents of the community. On June 2, Mr.
Dailey will ask for a recommendation from this body. That said, are there any concerns, comments,
questions regarding the Recreation Plan that was presented to the public last meeting?

Mr. Groden said that the first question he had was that are we not going to do anything until June
because the City is still negotiating with the YMCA. Is there something more concrete with the Y?
Mr. Dailey said that yes, there is something more definitive wanted from the YMCA to take a look at.
Obviously, at this point in time, it is still in the negotiations stage. It was mentioned at the meeting
when the City of Avon went into partnership with them, they did not actually have an agreement until
the issue passed the ballot. In Avon, they were getting something they never had, whereas here in
North Olmsted we are proposing something different. One of our attorneys, Carol Hayward, met with
the Y’s attorneys this past week.

Mr. Groden said he assumed there are also discussions going on right now with the Clinic. Mr. Dailey
said there are; the Clinic part is not as important to have as when we go forth with the building. At
that time we will be looking to see what kind of space they need after the fact. Obviously, we are
looking at the YMCA to be the primary tenant of the building running programs and operation, and
then whatever we enter into with the Cleveland Clinic will go on after plans start going forward.
Whatever they would pay would be going to the City, not the YMCA. They might have to work out
something separate with the YMCA and themselves because they would be using some of the YMCA
equipment. It might have to be where we carve out a small section for Cleveland Clinic usage.

On May 20, 2008, legislation will be introduced in Council, so public discussion will probably be the
th
following Tuesday, the 27, when they typically hold their Committees. It could be in Finance; it
could be in Rec; it could be in intergovernmental: at that point in time there should be two pieces of
Page 3
