Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
January 5, 2009

APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF DECEMBER 1, 2008

Mr. Groden asked for a Motion to approve the Minutes of December 1, 2008. After Motion duly
made by Mr. Mahoney, seconded by Mr. Lasko, and unanimously approved, the Minutes of December
1, 2008 passed as written.

SUB COMMITTEE REPORTS

None

REPORT OF THE RECREATION COMMISSIONER

Year in Review

Financial Report

Mr. DiSalvo said the year-end income financial report is official. As you know, the expense report is
unofficial, but the way things are budgeted out, he could say with almost 100% certainty that the
Parks and Recreation Department’s expenses will be the final report as well.

The Commissioner began with the income. This is the first year since Mr. DiSalvo has been at the
Rec that every cost center actually made their budget. Not only did they make the total Rec budget,
but every cost center did. Going down the first page entitled “2008 Monthly Revenue Report”,
Enrichment shows 2007 income as 119,500. This year’s budget was 123,000; she came in at 123,733,
so she finished 613 ahead of budget. Pool, which last meeting it was thought the budget would not be
met, this year’s budget was 183,300, she came in at 186,734, so she finished 3,434 ahead, which was
incredible. With Rink, we knew Betsy was going to make it with the last report being 20,000 behind;
budgeted for 414,400, came in at 422,090, so she exceeded her budget by 7,690. In Tennis, Pat is
steady as usual, but she was behind at this time last month as well; she was budgeted for 131,150, and
she finished 2,545 ahead of budget at 133,695. In Gymnastics, Karrie had the best year ever. She was
budgeted for 141,150; she came in at 165,444, finishing 24,294 ahead, coming in with the variance
from the prior year of 25,136 ahead of budget. Last, but not least, Chris Wetmore finished ahead of
his income budget by 970.

Mr. DiSalvo said that he is very proud of his team; they said they were going to pull it out, and they
did. He could not give them enough acclaim.

The next page, the Rec Programs Income Statement Comparison, just gives the details. The last five
thththth
days of 2008 – on December 30 we were at 7,300; on the 29, 4,600; on the 28, 2,200, 27, 3,000.
That last week of December accumulated to 21,000, so right up until the last day, the Rec was making
money, and we were closed on New Year’s Eve. That evening the Rec was catching up on some
maintenance issues such as painting and replacing light bulbs. Literally, until the last day possible, the
Rec was bringing in some significant income.
Page 2
