Minutes of a Meeting of the
North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission
January 5, 2009

Ms. Nader asked why there was such a difference in the Rink between this year (2008) and 2007. Ms.
Drenski said it was because the Rink was closed.

On the last sheet, with the unofficial expenses, every cost center came in under budget, which is good.
Ideally, with percentages it should be 100% or under, and each cost center was. Admin came in at
98.50%; Enrichment, 99.40%; Maintenance did a great job again at 98%; the Pool came in at 98.10%.
Rink came in at 99.10%; Tennis at 94.60%; Gymnastics, 98.40%; Team Sports, 97.50%. The overall
Rec expenses came in at 98.20%. The Rec finished about 58,000 ahead of budget, so we had a great
year.

Scuba Rental

Mr. DiSalvo reported that John Norris, the person who rents the pool for Scuba lessons, is now paid
to date (past due invoice was $2,300).

Again, the Commissioner could not thank the staff and department heads enough for pulling off a
great team effort. Mr. DiSalvo asked if there were any questions.

Mr. Dailey asked that the team do it again this year.

Mr. Groden had one general question for the revenue and expense picture from 2008, when you look
at 2009, how does that impact anything the Rec is thinking about for 2009. Mr. Groden knew that in
previous discussion, there has been talk about possibly closing the Rec Center outdoor pool on
Sundays during some parts of the year. Is that still being considered? Mr. DiSalvo said it was; it was
st
reflected in the budget June 1 through the first week of August, unless it would be rented.

Mr. Dailey said that we will be watching our pricing because of what is going on in the economy as
well. We don’t know if more people will be looking for a place for their kids this year if one parent
loses a job; there might be a discount in fees; there might be a community fund for reimbursement of
scholarship money. Someone called him last week about that sort of funding. We must be careful
that, in seeing a downturn in the economy, more people will be losing their jobs, they might pull their
kids out of programs. We will have to watch our numbers in Chris’ Sports and maybe in summer
camp as well. People will not be using those programs as much as in the past. Hopefully, that won’t
be the case.

Mr. Groden commended the job Mr. DiSalvo and his staff has done with getting the revenues in and
keeping the expenses down. The Commissioner thanked the Chairperson.

Page 3
