Advertising:

Kevin: I mentioned to Mr. Smith about our previous meeting about renting out space for money to help bring
some money to the City. I got the idea from him so I asked him to come here and talk more about it. Ted:
That’s fine. Do you mean for advertising? Tim Smith: Yes, because I had spoken with you and you showed me
the ordinance and that there will have to me a new ordinance to allow the club’s here to sell advertising on the
boards. So when I talked to Kevin he suggested I come here. Just to kind of get the ball rolling so I mentioned
it to the Hockey Club and the Edges, my wife is apart of the Edges. So what ever needs to be done or written, I
spoke to Bryan O’Malley from the law department and he said it is just a simple rewriting of the ordinance to
allow the clubs to go out and sell the advertising and put the boards up inside the Rec. Center to generate
revenue for Capital Improvements and things for the Rec. Center. I had done some research previously when I
ran for Mayor, I had purposed in several of my literature and speeches and Kevin Kennedy thought it was a great
idea. After the primary he asked me to sit down and talk with him and Councilman Brossard. They asked me to
do some research and I have a couple of companies that I deal with personally that make different types of signs,
some out of foam board and some out of a harder board but they are all full color graphics. I also referee ice
hockey so tonight I have to go out to Strongsville. If you go out there and look around there is advertising all
over the place. I spoke with the guy who runs the Iceland out there his name is Eric Coleman and he says they
are paying between $600 and $2000 a year for a sign depending upon the size of the sign and location. Ted:
Tim, are these dashers? Tim: No they are not dashers they are actually on the boards. In this location you loose
half of the dashers because of the stands so if you put them up on the boards or on the walls
that works better. I think looking ahead you might want to write the ordinance so that if there is a swim team
that wants to sell maybe Moen they would advertise over on the other side. It should be available for the whole
Rec. Center. Obviously it will have to be looked at so there is not a billboard everywhere you walk. Ted: I
thought that was for the complex not just limited to the Rink. Tim: I think it mentioned an outside company that
was going to do the contracting so when I said something to Bryan O’Malley he said would probably have to be
rewritten. I then talked to Kevin and he said I should come here and get the ball rolling to see were that has to
go so that it could generate even more revenue towards Capital Improvements and maybe another $50,000. I
talked to John Dailey previously and he said they were promised $30,000 to $40,000 from this outside company
and they got about $2,000. Here you have people from the Hockey Club and Edges both very motivated clubs in
the city and very interested in keeping the Rink and improving the Rink and making it move forward. I don’t
think there is anything more motivating than those organizations and like I said even if you open it up to the
Swim Team or someone else that uses the Pool you can do it in a manner that is not gaudy or overpowering but
is done in a classy type of way. Tim: The signs that I looked at, and I spoke with these people they are all full
color graphics and there nice and don’t look like someone did them in there basement or anything. I think it is an
opportunity for the City to get more revenue and improve the Rink and it’s a win for everyone. Charlie
Soloman: I had a conversation with the General Manager down in Wooster and he is willing to share his sales
plan and how they put their sales together. They are getting roughly $1,500 for each of the signs they have up
on the boards. There are probably fifteen of those. On top of that they have illuminating lighting around the Rink
and them some other stationary lighting above the score box. So I’m supposing we can generate $30,000 to
$40,000 a year if we were able to get this going. I think that the Hockey Club and the Edges have a vested
interest in the Rink and we would really like to see the monies that we generate go directly back into improving
the Rink. Ted: Sure. Terry: With the money if it goes to the whole Rec. Center itself or just for Hockey, I
don’t know how that would work. Tim: I think Bryan said it would all depend on how the ordinance is written.
It’s written specifically to be used for the Rec. Center for Capital Improvements it may be for the whole Rec.
Center you may not be able to signal it out for the Rink, I don’t know.

Page 8
