Recreation Commission Meeting
December 1, 2003

drainage. Mr. Baxter said that, if you note the first paragraph on page 11 of the November
minutes, NOSO was to contact Mike Gareau to follow up on the matter. They (NOSO) made it
seem simple, laying down the pipe and getting on with it. Mr. Gareau assured the Commission he
would be in touch with NOSO the next day to expedite the matter and bring it before Committee.

Arsenic Treated Wood

Ms. Hayes reported that there recently was an article in the paper about arsenic treated
playground materials that contaminated the soils, and she wanted to make sure that this was not
the case in North Olmsted. This was pressure treated wood used in Cleveland Heights that was
not old. It appears that this is not a problem at the present time in the City of North Olmsted.

This concluded the report of the Recreation Commissioner.

REPORT BY SAFETY DIRECTOR

Claire Hayes

Mr. Jesse began his report by expressing his thanks to Claire Hayes and the time and expertise she
put into being the chair. He also expressed his disappointment at her lack of success at election
time. Over the years, she did very good work for the Board of Education and spoke for the
group in saying that the Commission would miss her, and that all the members hoped this would
be a turning point for her to do other good things for the City. Ms. Hayes said that it was a
pleasure working will all of the Commission members and that she will miss everyone. Ms. Hayes
said that the new member will be appointed at the organizational meeting, which she believed
would be January 5, 2004.

Rec Center Matters

Mr. Jesse stated that the oustide locks have been changed around the perimeter of the Rec Center
building. Mr. DiSalvo continued by saying that the East door is for administrative staff only. The
front entrance, the South entrance, is open. He asked that the members use that door, and that
the public is being encouraged to use that door for the administrative building. Supervisors
and/or ticket booth staff have keys to the doors. Tom Stein, the Maintenance Supervisor, and the
Commissioner, have the master list, and Mr. Stein is the only one who can order the keys, which
cannot be duplicated. They are ordered from one source, which requires verification from Mr.
Stein or Mr. DiSalvo.

First Enregy replaced all the dead bulbs on the outside fixtures, and Tom Stein took care of the
security lighting on the East side of the building.
Page 5
