Recreation Commission Meeting
July 7, 2003

through the Board of Control and, depending upon the dollar amount of the agreement would
determine whether or not it would go to Council for final approval. The Mayor would be the one
to execute the contract. Mr. Jesse believes it important that Mr. DiSalvo be content with the
agreement because he would be the one to live with it on a day-to-day basis and to bring the
presentations before the Commission for its voice on what it should be. On that basis, the
agreement would be presented to the Board of Control. Ms. Hayes pointed out that one
provision, maintenance, seemed vague in how often the machines were cleaned. Mr. Jesse stated
that the agreement would be gone through provision by provision; that what is being presented to
the Commission is the old agreement. The reason the agreement is null is that the Mayor did not
sign the agreement.

Coca Cola Agreement

Mr. DiSalvo said that whoever is sells beverages in the parks must sell Coke products. Mr.
Gareau and Mr. Dubelko looked at the agreement and agreed that Coke products only must be
sold for conformance. Mr. Jesse stated that came to a head because of the NOSO Cup. The
$52,000 went to the General Fund.

West Shore Figure Skating Club

Mr. DiSalvo reported that the West Shore Figure Skating Club is becoming inactive; therefore,
the Rec Center is pursuing another skating club to take its hours. The ice time will be filled at the
end of this week by two new groups for longer periods of time. More income will be generated.
Mr. Gareau asked if the Rec would be pulling groups from other facilities. Mr. DiSalvo said it's
based on reorganization. He continued by saying that Betsy Drenski has reorganized the entire
ice schedule as well for the High School, the Hockey Clubs - everyone's getting more ice time.

Walking Trail

Mr. Baxter asked Mr. DiSalvo if anything had been done on the walking path in the park. Mr.
DiSalvo asked Mr. Gareau about the specs, who replied that they hadn't been pulled yet. Mr.
Baxter said that at one time there were signs identifying the natural features and would be of low-
cost benefit to the City. Mr. Jesse said that he will follow up on the matter, and Mr. Gareau said
that he will pull what he had a few years ago on the estimates and ask Carrie Copfer about
available funds for all possible projects in the park.

th
4 of July

th
Everyone agreed that the Commissioner's first 4 of July celebration went well. He was not
aware that there was supposed to be a flag raising ceremony with the National Anthem. Opening

Page 2
