Recreation Commission Meeting
November 3, 2003

Number one on the wish list is the magical ingredient for the fields: water. NOSO had three or
four regular garden sized hose water outlets that were used a number of years ago on field two.
That's a lot of work to pull hundreds of feet of garden hose. The team's come up with putting in
the in-ground sprinklers, which would be unique. However, on second thought, irrigation-type
sprinkler systems makes more sense and provides more flexibility to reconfigure the fields and
would provide less chance of injury to a player than an in-ground sprinkler, where a head could
pop up or someone could trip over it. Running a water line parallel to the access road to the
fence line, extend it to separate the fields and tap in sprinkler heads is the proposal, so that water

is easily accessible to the fields. See the hand drawn map attached.

Included in NOSO's wish list is more parking. On Saturdays and Sundays, the fields are full and
the parking lots of full, but it's manageable. However, when it's tournament time, it's the number
one complaint of visitors. NOSO's games are scheduled so close together that there isn't time for
one game to end and those people to leave and free up parking spots for other people to come in.
Many times people come in, drop the kids off, circle around until they can find a parking spot.

Every year, this complaint invariably comes up.

Improved signage would also be on the list of wishes. North Royalton also has a very nice park,
and what makes it stands out is a very nice sign that says you're at the North Royalton Soccer
Complex and it tells you what's going on. There really is no sign that says you're at
Barton/Bradley. The gravel road should be black-topped or something more permanent for
handicapped access. The shed is very limited. NOSO understands that the shed was to be
expanded and that there was to be a concession stand there; that Angelina's and Coke were to
provide refreshments there. Angelina's talked to Coke and, supposedly, with the City's approval,
the shed was to be expanded another twenty feet to make a permanent concession stand, and it
would also give NOSO another ten or fifteen feet more on its portion of the shed for more
storage, financed by Coke. This was two years ago, but the deal fell through. Mr. Kelley asked
the NOSO member if it fell through in Council or Committee or what? The NOSO member
reported that it died either because of lack of interest or because Angelina's was removed from the
concessions. NOSO only knows that it was taken to Council or one of the Commissions
presented and it never progressed any further. Mr. Kelley said that he never remembered the
matter passing through the Recreation Commission, and neither did Claire Hayes, the Commission
Chairman. The NOSO member said he did not know whether it was the Building Department or
Planning Commission or whatever, but it never went pass that point, and the end result was that
Coke said that if nothing was going to happen, they would pull up stakes. Mr. Kelley said that it
sounded to him an opportunity lost.

NOSO continued with their wish list by stating they would like to replace all the permanently
mounted goals with movable ones. They are at this time, to some extent, a health hazard. Several
have been removed over the past few years; however, NOSO would like to get all of them done
sooner rather than later.
Page 8
