Randall Angle Hearing
February 28, 1985
Page 2
and that that was not true.
law Director then asked Detective Mason that in checking past employment, did he
check with Mr. Angle as to his reasons for leaving his employments. Detective
Mason stated that he asked Mr. Angle for all employment information from High School
on; what jobs he had held and his reasons for leaving those employments and when he
left those employments. Mr. Angle stated that in 1980 he worked at May Co. as a dish
washer, that he had no problems and that he left for better employment. He also
stated that during 1982/83 he worked for Allied Security in Cleveland, had no problems,
and left for better employment. Then, he stated, he worked for.Veteran's Administra-
tion downtown, he did have some problem there and that he.quit but that they would
say he was fired. Mr. Angle then stated he worked for lawsons as a clerk and that he
had no problems there. He also had listed a few other employments on his application
which Detective Mason investigated. Detective Mason also checked.with neighbors
to verify schooling and any -health problems.
'Law Director Gareau asked Detective Mason if,,after the January 2 interview, he checked
Mt. Angle's employment and criminal background. Detective Mason stated that he did
check the Cris (Sp?).File which consists of.all information regarding persons involved
in criminal or vehicular lawlessness. The July -30th incident involving the beer
drinking came to light and Detective Mason then obtained a copy of the police report
from Fairview Park. The report stated that Mr. Angle and his 15 year old brother were
consuming beer at McDonald's parking lot in Fairview Park. Mr. Angle was charged with
"open container" and his brother went to Juvenile Court. Detective Mason learned that
the incident did not occur in "someone's backyard" and that Mr. Angle's brother was
only 15, who was not the "friend" Mr. Angle referred to. Since Mr. Angle "waivered"
the fine, he, in truth, went to the Clerk's office, paid the fine, and accepted a
plea of not guilty.
Law Director Gareau asked Detective -Mason if at that time he made a determination as
to Mr. Angle's initial answer of question #10. Detective Mason stated that he knew
that Mr. Angle answered that particular question untrutyfully. Mr. Gareau asked
Detective Mason if Mr. Angle's direct answers to the questions relative to the incident
were truthful or untrutyful. Detective Mason stated that they were untrutyful as to
place, persons involved, and that it involved a "court appearance."
Mr. Gareau asked Detective Mason what he found relative to Mr. Angle's employment
during his investivations. Detective Mason stated that at Allied Security Mr. Angle
was reprimanded several times for a variety of reasons and that during the second
interview Mr. Angle admitted that he has been reprimanded by Allied Security. Mr.
Angle also stated that .he did not do the job satisfactorily to their standards.
Detective Mason stated he checked with Veteran's Administration and that Mr. Angle
had been fired from that employment. During the second interview Mr. Angle stated
that although Veteran's Administration would say he was fired, he would say that he
quit. Detective Mason stated that in comparing the two interviews, the May Co.
and Veteran's Administration employment discussion was inconsistent. He stated that
during the second interview Mr. Angle did admit to the correctness of the information
that Detective Mason received in his investigations.
Detective Mason also asked Mr. AWe about the Fairview Park "open container" incident
and why he had lied and Mr. Angle s reply was that he didn't think it was an arrest.
Law Director Gareau-asked Detective Mason if there were any other inconsistencies.
