CIVIL SERVICE MEETING MINUTES
JANUARY 28, 1993
PAGE 2
OLD BUSINESS
Ron Wilamosky had sent a letter to Tracy Ice, dated January 21, 1993,
asking that Jim Hines attend a meeting with Dan Cabot of the EEO to
discuss the Lewis Robinson Case against North Olmsted Civil Service.
Jim Hines will attend this meeting on February 16, 1993 at 9:15 am. A
letter will go to Ron Wilamosky advising him of the same.
Hiring practices for North Olmsted. The Commission will send out
special letters to the Mayor, Mike Gareau, Ron Wilamosky to invite
them to our next civil service meeting to review the hiring process
for classified/non-classified positions. Jim Hines asked that this be
first on the agenda and the meeting will be held at 4:30 pm on
February 25, 1993 in the Caucus Room at City Hall. Jim Hines feels
that Personnel is not interested in working with Civil Service because
there isn't any communication between the two departments regarding
hiring practices.
The Civil Service Commission will be administering a Fire Fighter
Entry Level Examination on March 5, 1993 at 7:00 pm at the High School
Cafe. According to our new contract --- all applicants must have
paramedic certification before taking the test. This exam. fee has
been raised to $30 per candidate.
Highland Heights gave a Fire Fighters test with paramedic
certification requirement and they had 40 candidates.
Chief Osterhouse advised the Commission that not all the fire fighters
that he has on board have paramedic certification. The requirement at
that time when those candidates were hired was that they must have
paramedic certification within 3 years after being hired. There is
only one salary for Fire Fighters now and that is $27,459 per year
with PARAMEDIC CERTIFICATION.
Jim Hines feels that we should have this paramedic requirement. This
is the way to go because we have had so many candidates take the
examinations in the past that it is getting too hard to test them all
at one time and by doing this, we would get the most qualified
candidates to take the test.
Chief Osterhouse said that if people call City Hall asking where they
can get certified that it will take about a year but that they can go
to Lorain Community College, Cuyahoga Community College or Parma
General Hospital.
