CIVIL' SERVICE MEETING MINUTES
OCTOBER 18, 1993
PAGE 2
Jim Hines - mentioned that the commission had talked prior to this
meeting and decided that they would give the typing test over to all
those candidates who did not pass the typing test. This test will be
given on IBM compatible computers (this includes the two girls who are
appealing). I talked to several companies on the type of test they
give before hiring an employee. These other companies have been giving
typing tests on computers.
Ron Wilamosky - wanted to know if even the candidates who passed the
typing test can re -take the test. We have a candidate who passed the
written and typing test and who had to rank in the top 3 to retain her
job. She did not rank in the top 3. We now have two employees who
failed the typing test and they can have another chance to remain in
their job by passing this second typing test, when all they had to do
was just pass and not rank. I feel that everyone should be able to
re -take the test.
Jim Hines - The typing test is pass/fail. It would not be necessary
for the candidates who passed the test to re -take the typing test.
It would not move any candidate up in rank.
Ron Wilamosky - It would change the ranking of candidates who passed
the written/typing tests because the candidates who will now pass the
second typing test will be added to the eligibility list and therefore
move the candidates down on the eligibility list who passed the test
the first time. This is not fair.
Mr. Gundy - Tracy could you please read the requirements from the ad
for this position. Tracy read the requirements from the ad and then
Mr. Gundy mentioned that the ad reads very clear to him on what we
expected from the people we tested. It does mention word processing
it does not say that you can have either data entry or typing. I just
wonder if we.are giving everyone a fair shot based on the notice that
was sent out.
Tracy Ice - mentioned that the typing teacher; Carol Stotzner, checked
all machines before the test. If a typewriter wasn't working
correctly, why didn't the candidates mention this to Mrs. Stotzner?
They could have been re -tested or moved to another typewriter.
Mike Gareau - said that what ever is fairest should be done.
