CIVIL SERVICE MEETING MINUTES
OCTOBER 18, 1993
PAGE 4
Ronald Janetzke - Is the Commission going to change their probation
period rules from 2 years to 6 months to go along with the union? If
the commission makes the change now, then the two -candidates would
have been employed for 6 months and they will have met your probation
period.
Glenn Marks - this will be changed but not until this secretarial
situation is completed.
Jim Hines - the Commission is committed to trying to do this in the
fairest way. We do not want to change the rules after the test was
given.
AT THIS POINT, THE UNION REPRESENTATIVES, HOLLY KISH AND SANDRA STUART
MET PRIVATELY.
Ronald Janetzke - Our preference is to put on the testimony so that
you can see that the documents might be sufficient in changing your
mind.
Holly Kish - Works in the service garage as a secretary II. A
complete set of documents that Holly does has been distributed to the
Commission to review. She received all necessary paper work to advise
her of the test that she had to take and pass to retain her job. Holly
said that she had problems with the typewriter on her second letter
during the test. After that, Holly knew she messed up and then did
not pay attention for the rest of the test. This was a typewriter
malfunction. The equipment inventory form is a list that Holly
designed. Holly makes the entire form and then puts the information in
herself. Holly keeps other inventories as well as other forms like the
fuel watch program - at the end of the month we print out how much
fuel has been used, which is mostly figures. Holly also does an
annual summary for replacing new equipment. -This is another form I
made up and filled in. I do 99-100% of my work on the computer. I
have typed specifications and little memos but no letters.
Jim Hines - do you think it is fair to say that secretaries should be
able to type?
Holly Kish - I do feel that that is fair. I feel that you should look
at punctuation and grammar. We were not tested on any of this along
with format.
Mike Gareau - did you have a chance to look at the job description
before taking the test. Holly said YES. Do you feel that the job
that you have now follows the description you had read? Holly said
NO.
