does not want to be interviewed. He was actually supposed to come in for an interview today,
but Cleveland Hts. called him yesterday and told him he had a job. Chadwick Thompson
indicated that he would like to be removed from the list because he has another job in a fire
department. So, the list is almost down to the teens.
J. Thomay motioned to remove Richard Lennox, Andrew Clark, Christopher Keener, David
Murphy, Robert Senczylo, Mark Lindsay, Sean Cottrell, and Chadwick Thompson. The motion
was seconded by P. Farrell and unanimously approved.
Chief Bak questioned whether or not candidates that do not have their paramedic certification
would be passed over or not. Mr. Farrell indicated that they would not be passed over until they
are State Paramedic Certified. Mr. Thomay agreed that it would be unfair to pass them over
when they aren't even allowed to be considered.
D) Commissioners need to make a motion to remove Dispatcher candidate Michael Kucera's name
from entry level list.
J. NEW BUSINESS:
A) Commissioners need to review the documentation received regarding the Police department
requiring any new hire to be non-smokers and make a motion to place the requirement in the
newspaper ads.
Mr. Thomay questioned what the other members thought about this. Mrs. Zolar questioned if it
wasn't already in the ad. Chief Bak questioned if they knew the whole story. Their policy is that you can't be a smoker when you're hired and you can't smoke
on or off duty. Apparently the Law Director said that there is nothing against the law that says
we can't do this. Mr. Thomay commented that there is no way that the Police Department would
be able to mandate employees smoking at home or on their own time. He also wonders how
many people on the force are smokers now. Mr. Farrell thought that this was a bad idea also.
Mrs. Zolar thought that it would be a lot better if they didn't, but she too agrees it would be too
hard to enforce. Mr. Thomay commented that the Chief could make a rule that nobody is
allowed to smoke on duty, but this off duty no -smoking policy will be a problem. The board
members are all in agreement that this should not be in the ad. Mr. Farrell questioned what
happens when you aren't a smoker, say you get hired, one night you go down to the local pub
and there are tons of people in there smoking and you go home and get your blood checked and
there it is. Mr. Thomay indicated that they don't need to make a motion on this because they do
not want to see it in the ad.
B) Commissioners need to review and make a motion on a request for additional points for an
Emergency Central Dispatcher candidate.
J.
