Mr. Thomay indicated that the next protests "K, L & M" pertaining to question #115 of the test. <br />Mrs. Ramsey believes that there is confusion as well as he does. <br />J. Thomay "Yes". <br />Question #115 omitted from written test. <br />Mr. Thomay announced question 9120 was next pertaining to protest "N". He suggested that he <br />felt there was confusion in question #120. The question .#120 questions the major reason for <br />firefighter deaths. The NFPA dated 1991 death statistics listed 5 reasons not one. Mrs. Ramsey <br />believes the protest should be denied. He could not find any material that stress was the number <br />one cause of deaths. He disagrees with the testing company's recommendation. <br />J. Giesser & J. Thomay "Yes". Question #120 omitted from written test. <br />Mr. Thomay voiced that the next item was question #121 pertaining to protest "O". The question <br />mentions different wordings, dangerous firefighter tactic in the test and the paragraph in the book <br />states that responding or returning from a fire, or fire alarm is not a fire -fighting tactic. He felt it <br />was confusing. A brief discussion took place between the commissioners regarding changing the <br />answer key or omitting the question. <br />J. Thomay "Yes". <br />Question #142 appeal "R" denied. <br />Ms. Giesser questioned if there was an additional protest not related .to the questions of the test. <br />Mrs. Rote indicated that a letter/protest was received and placed under communications if the <br />commissioners whishes to address it. Ms. Giesser indicated that the memo states that it is a protest <br />therefore the commission should make a ruling on it. Mrs. Rote reviewed that she sought guidance <br />from the Law Department when she received the memo as to were to place it on the docket as the <br />memo was received before the test took place. Mr. Thomay indicated that the source material was <br />listed in the clerk's sheets that were posted. A lengthy discussion took place regarding the <br />procedures of notification and postings. Mrs. Rote reviewed that the Lieutenants examination <br />material was posted 32 -days prior to the date of the test. Discussion regarding when postings take <br />place, how they are posted, and timeframes for postings took place. Mr. O'Malley indicated that <br />the Commissioners are correct that the objection that has been raised needs to be addressed. <br />However, it was not docketed with the other protests because it is a different nature. The use of the <br />term protest is not necessarily a protest as that term is used as was used to consider the other <br />protests just addressed. It is an objection to the publication or posting of the notice of the exam. He <br />
