Chairman Barrett indicated that there are two (2) names on the Entry -Level Patrol Officer Eligible
List that have been passed over by the appointing authority three (3) times. According to the Civil
Service rules, the Commission will need to set this matter for hearing at the next meeting and to
notify the candidates. The candidate names are Steven Palka and Ashley Ethridge.
Chairman Barrett moved, seconded by Commissioner Hayes, to set for hearing at the June,
2014 meeting, to remove the names of Steven Palka and Ashley Ethridge from the Entry -Level
Patrol Officer Eligible List. The candidates were passed over by the appointing authority
three (3) times. Hearing letters will be sent to the candidates,
Motion passed unanimously.
Review Entry -Level Firefighter/Paramedic Applications
The Commission reviewed several application packets for the Entry -Level Firefighter/Paramedic
Examination:
#13 did not complete his application. The Commission will give this applicant ten (10) days
to comply.
#24, #30, #32, #34, #44, #58, and #60 had minor misdemeanor offenses and after the
Commission reviewed their applications, the applicants are allowed to take the test.
#14, #29, and #52 has submitted valid agility certifications at the time of application and
now has expired. General discussion followed regarding rule language and the consensus of
the Commission is to let the applicants take the examination and if they do not have a valid
agility certification once the Firefighter/Paramedic Eligible List has been certified, then the
Commission will deal with that issue.
#17 and 463 are over the time limit on their agility certifications; therefore, their
applications will be rejected.
#65 did not submit an agility certification; therefore his application will be rejected.
#25 is claiming education credit but the transcript does not show a degree. He will receive
no extra credit for his Tri -C Transcript.
453 submitted a NASCAR Institute diploma. He will not receive any extra credit for that
diploma.
#55 submitted an Associates Diploma for Emergency Medical Service Tech and Fire
Protection Tech. The applicant will receive 4 extra credit points for his 2 associates'
degrees.
#27 is claiming Military extra credit. Consensus of the Commission is that the applicant has
2 years of military credit; therefore, he will be receiving 2 extra credit points.
437 is claiming Military extra credit. After the Commission's review, the applicant has 2
years and 2 months of service; therefore, he will receive 2 extra credit points.
