City Hall Art Gallery
Annie moved to approve John Porter's City Hall Art Gallery application, seconded by Stephanie,
motion passed unanimously. The gallery will run from April 291h through May 31St. The group
discussed the criteria and thought process used in selecting artists. Annie stated that while she
may not always be a fan of certain artists' work, she views applications through the lens of broad
interest to the community at -large. Sue and Leah stated that it is difficult to place any clear
criteria on artist judging, as most juried shows do not provide reasons for why a piece was not
selected. Leah added that the Commission should understand that while there has been little time
without artwork, it may be acceptable to not have artwork on the walls if no acceptable
applications have been received.
Laura stated that she sees the program as a way for artists to put their work out in the community
in a low-pressure setting while adding to their resume. She asked how the program had been
promoted recently; James said that it has been posted in City Hall lobby, on the digital sign and
all across the city's website and Celebrate North Olmsted Facebook page. It was agreed by all to
create an updated City Hall Art Gallery application with specific submittal criteria; Stephanie
will work with city staff on this.
Earth Fair I April 28
Leah reviewed notes from the February 8th Earth Fair committee meeting. Janelle said that she contacted the henna artist but has not heard anything back.
Stephanie will attempt to reach the St. Edwards Trash Talkers to confirm their attendance. Leah
will set another event committee meeting and will share it with the entire Commission.
Holiday Decorations
The group discussed several ideas for holiday decorations along Lorain Road. Wilma stated that
Community Council may have funds to assist the Commission in purchasing decorations. A
letter of interest would be required to receive these funds. Leah expressed interest in something
that would be engaging for people to pose with or interact with. Sue inquired about using the
NOMBL bus as a temporary installation.
