Mr. Mackey moved, seconded by Mr. Papotto, to approve the following variances for 19-
13794; Robert Sharp; 25407 Butternut Ridge Road:
1. A 9 ft. variance for length of a parking pad; code allows a maximum length of 18 ft.
measured from the existing driveway edge, applicant shows length of 27 ft.; Section
1135.02(B)(3)(b).
2. A 13 ft. variance for width of a parking pad; code allows a maximum width of 20 ft.,
applicant shows 33 ft.; Section 1135.02(B)(3)(b).
Motion passed 4-0.
19-13807; Steve and Lisa Anderson; 4600 Canterbury Road
Representatives: Steve & Lisa Anderson
Proposal consists of a parking pad. Property is zoned B -One Family Residence.
The following variance is requested:
1. A variance for a parking pad in a front yard; code only allows parking pads in the side or rear
yard of a residential lot unless the lot has access to an arterial street, applicant shows a
parking pad in the front yard; Section 1135.02(B)(3)(a).
Mr. Aspery stated that the applicant is proposing to install a parking pad in the front yard of their
property. A parking pad may only be installed in the front yard if there is access to an arterial
street; code allows for parking pads in the side and rear yards of non -arterial streets. Since
Canterbury Road is not classified as an arterial street, a variance is required for the parking pad
proposed in the front yard.
Mr. Anderson said they want to install a turnaround area to allow easier backing up on
Canterbury Road since they have been in accidents five times in the last seven months. They
have resorted to turning around in the grass to safely exit. There are also ditches on either side of
the road further restricting the area to drive if the driveway is passed, without blocking traffic.
Mr. Papotto asked why the dimensions were chosen, Mr. Anderson said they added a few feet to
either side of the area they were using in the grass. Ms. Anderson added that they have a
contractor helping them determine the size. Mr. Mackey travels past the property daily and
agrees that the area is needed. Mr. Papotto believed the dimensions would just be able to be used
as a turn around since it is not deep enough to park. Mr. Raig thought the ditches on either side
of the road pose a safety hazard when backing out. Mr. Papotto thought the front of the house
was the best location.
Mr. Papotto moved, seconded by Mr. Raig, to approve the following variance for 19-13807;
Steve and Lisa Anderson; 4600 Canterbury Road:
1.
