the entire plaza. She believed multiple wall signs for a building with four sided exposure are <br />warranted, but the applicant should be able to live within their allotted square footage. She did <br />not support the painted mural, which violates both height and area for a single sign and pushes <br />the total sign package over the allowance in several ways. If the painted mural is removed, the <br />second and sixth variances would be eliminated, the third variance would be reduced to 2.52 <br />square feet and the fifth variance would be reduced to a variance for two additional wall signs. <br />Ms. Patton asked if there are other locations without a mural, Ms. Holbrook said the new <br />locations in Rocky River and Strongsville do not have them. Mr. Papotto asked about the round <br />corner shown on the site plan, Ms. Holbrook said they are only showing the area that is being <br />leased. Ms. Lieber said only the lease area was used to calculate the total signage allowance. Mr. <br />Allain pointed out that the Great Northern sign is not on the lease property. Ms. Holbrook <br />thought the mural added a lot to the elevation and character of the building. Mr. Mackey asked <br />about the parking lot to the east of the building, Ms. Lieber said the mall properties all have <br />cross -access and patrons can park wherever they want to. <br />Discussion regarding motions for signage if the mural is not included in the calculations. Mr. <br />Gareau suggested doing two motions. Board members agreed that they would like to remove the <br />mural from the sign package. <br />Mr. Papotto moved, seconded by Mr. Mackey, to approve the following variances for 19- <br />15724; Raising Cane's; 25821 Brookpark Road, as amended, without the mural included in <br />the calculations: <br />1. A 9.5 ft. variance for street lawn depth; code requires a minimum street lawn depth of <br />20 ft.; applicant shows 10.5 ft. street lawn depth; Section 1139.05.13.1. <br />3. A 2.52 sq. ft. variance for sign area per building; code permits 111.92 sq. ft. of sign <br />area; applicant shows 114.44 sq. ft. of sign area with the mural removed; Section <br />1163.25.B. <br />4. A variance for 3 ground signs; code permits 1 ground sign per lot; applicant shows 4 <br />ground signs (existing plaza multi -tenant, two menu boards, one pre menu board); <br />Section 1163.27.A. <br />5. A variance for 2 wall signs; code permits 1 wall sign per building; applicant shows 3 <br />wall signs with the mural removed; Section 1163.28.A. <br />Motion passed 5-0. <br />Mr. Papotto moved, seconded by Mr. Mackey, to approve the following variances for 19- <br />15724; Raising Cane's; 25821 Brookpark Road: <br />2. A 79.71 sq. ft. variance for sign area per lot; code permits 245.97 sq. ft. of sign area; <br />applicant shows 325.68 sq. ft. of sign area; Section 1163.25.A. Note: Calculation was <br />made based upon applicant's lease area frontage. <br />6. A 39.5 sq. ft. variance for sign area of a wall sign and a 5 ft. variance for height of a wall <br />sign; code permits wall signs to be a maximum of 100 sq. ft. in sign area and a <br />maximum of 4 ft. in height; applicant shows one wall sign (painted mural) at 139.5 sq. <br />ft. sign area and 9 ft. height; Section 1163.28.C. <br />Motion denied 0-5. <br />
