Discussion commenced regarding the Fire Chief testing calendar. The dates for the process were
read to the Commission. O'Malley suggested a longer timeframe for applications to be sent in. The
original dates for applications were August 25,2025,through September 12, 2025. Commissioner
Cotofan suggested moving the start date to August 19 or the Thursday after. O'Malley explained
that moving the dates out one week would be fine. If we moved the dates up to the 19th the posting
wouldn't make it on Cleveland.com as they only post on Sundays. The Commission agreed to the
dates of August 25th to September 19th for the applications. That would also move the date of the
screening committee from September 15`h to September 17`t', and the date of the background checks
from September 19th to September 26th.
Motion by Commissioner Flannery, seconded by Commissioner Cotofan to approve the Fire Chief
Testing Calendar with the September move dates.
Motion passed unanimously.
The Commission was presented with the new job description for the Fire chief and asked to look it
over and approve the changes.
Motion by Commissioner Flannery, seconded by Commissioner Cotofan to approve the Fire Chief
Job Description.
Motion passed unanimously.
The Commission was also presented with the job posting for the Fire Chief opening. The dates were
switched in a previous motion so they will have to be changed on the posting as well.
The Commission was also presented with job qualifications on behalf of the City of North Olmsted
Local 1267. Discussion commenced regarding the qualifications of the Fire Chief and Assistant Fire
Chief. There was a concern that the minimal qualifications of Fire Chief and Assistant Fire Chief in
the City's job description conflict with the qualifications from the Lexipol through the Union. The
Union representative passed out the information from Lexipol. They also presented a letter on
behalf of the Executive Board summarizing their findings. O'Malley points out that the policy
manual and the job description coexist, and recommends Clancy be informed with the both the job
description and the manual, and he is not expecting them to be at odds together. O'Malley clarified
he wants them sent to both Clancy and PRADCO.
Motion by Commissioner Flannery, seconded by Commissioner Cotofan to supply Policy 1006 in
the North Olmsted Fire Department Policy Manual to Clancy and PRADCO.
Motion passed unanimously.
Motion by Commissioner Flannery. seconded by Commissioner Cotofan to accept the job posting
for the Fire Chief in lieu of the deadline date change.
Motion passed unanimously.
Commission was presented with the amended application. This includes the deletion of elementary
school box, addition of more job history boxes, and the requirement of a resume attached. O'Malley
asked if the internal and external applicants are using the same application. He suggested they use
the same per the rules, he didn't feel there was a need for letters of intent for inside applicants.
Motion by Commissioner Flannery, seconded by Commissioner Cotofan to accept the amended
application for both internal and external candidates.
Motion passed unanimously.
