(a) Paid sick leave shall be earned and accumulated at the rate of one and one <br />fourth (1 1/4) days for each month; <br />(b) Pay for sick leave shail be at the employee's straight time hourly rate (or portion <br />thereof if absent for less than a full day); <br />(c) !f an employee is absent on sick leave for more than three (3) consecufive work <br />days, the City shall require the emplayee to present medical evidence that fhe <br />employee was under a doctor's care and is able to retum fio work The City will <br />review the attendance records of employees periodically and at least once in <br />each three (3) month period. If the City believes that an employee is developing <br />an attendance problem, the City will notify the employee in writing thafi medical <br />evidence will be required for absences of three (3) days or less. When an <br />employee's record becomes satisfactory, the requirement fior such medical <br />evidence for short term absences will be removed, and the employee will be <br />notified in writing. <br />(d) Employees may use up to fifteen (15) work days per year of earned and <br />accumulated sick leave if necessitated by illness in the employee's immediate <br />family. For purposes of this subsection, "immediate family" shall be interpreted <br />to be spouse, chi(dren, parents of the employee, regardless of the place of <br />residence; and other relatives living within the hausehold of the employee. <br />(e) When an employee with five (5) or more years of service retires having received <br />P.E.R.S. pension, dies, or takes disability retirement and has accumulated sick <br />leave time, the retiring employee may convert one-half (1/2) of the accumulated <br />sick leave time (with the City of North Olmsted) to pay on the basis of his rate of <br />pay at the time of retirement but the maximum amount paid shall not exceed <br />One thousand (1,000) hours. <br />(f) An empioyee shoutd make an effort to schadule medical and dental <br />appointments for himself and his family members during non-working haurs. <br />Section 2. Consistent with the just cause standard in Article 30, the City may discipline or, if <br />appropriate, discharge an employee for abuse vf sick leave or the patterned use of sick leave <br />(Ex. repeated Mondays, Fridays, or days after payday). <br />Section 3. Sick leave shall not be paid to any full-time employees which exceeds forty (40) <br />hours in a normal work week as defined in Article 10, Sections '( and 2, of this Agreement. <br />Section 4. Employees hired after Jufy 1,1998 and have accumulated sick leave with another <br />political subdivision wili transfer said sick leave and sha!l use the transferred sick leave prior to <br />sick ieave accumulated while employed with the City of North Olmsted. <br />Sick leave carry-over from another political subdivision shall not be used to calculate an <br />17
