<br />employees buy-out pursuant to Section 1(e) above. <br />ARTICLE 16 - GENERAL LEAVE PROVISIONS <br />Section 1. Ali leaves of absence when known in advance (and any extensions thereof) must be <br />applied for and granted in writing on forms provided by the City (copy to the employee). An <br />employee and the Union will be notified within three (3) working days from the date the <br />application was made of approval or denial of the request leave.. <br />Section 2. An employee shall accumulate seniority during any leave of absence, but he shall <br />not be entitlsd to any benefits, except that the City shall continue to pay its portion of the <br />employee's hospitalization insurance in Article 25 for a three (3) month period. After the three <br />(3) month period, an ernployee must direct pay any required hospital/surgical premiums to the <br />City on or before the monthly due date. <br />Section 3. When an employee returns to work after a leave of absence, he will be assigned to <br />the position which he formerly occupied at the then current rate of pay (or to a similar position if <br />his former position no longer exists) if he is medically qualified and capable of performing the <br />job requirement as determined by the City. In the event the City questions whether the <br />employee is medically qualified to do the work the City shall have the employee medicalty <br />examined and pay for such examination. <br />Section 4. No more than one (1) member of any Wastewater Treatment shift crew may be <br />absent on school leave or for certification tests at any time. Seniority will govern. The second man will <br />make special arrangements suitabfe to the superintendent. <br />Section 5. If it is found that a leave of absence is not actually being used for the purpose for which it <br />was granted, the City shall cancel the leave and it may impose disciplinary action up to and including <br />discharge. <br />ARTIGLE 17 - LAY-OFFS <br />Section 1. Whenever it is necessary for fihe City to reduce its forces, the employee within the department <br />to be reduced will be laid off in the following order: <br />18 <br />
